Notorious ‘Ghost’ Gang Leader Busted By Police In Lagos

An elusive leader of a notorious gang allegedly responsible for a wave of violence in the last few years in the Mushin area of Lagos, Wasiu Akinwande [a.k.a Olori Eso], has been apprehended by the police in a raid that has been praised by many residents of the area.

Wasiu was arrested on Tuesday, after months of being on the run.

But some residents of the area have expressed fear that the gang leader might be released again without any prosecution just like the police did in the past.

He was said to have been arrested earlier in January after a renewed gang war in the area. Wasiu was arrested by policemen from the Area D Police Command, along with two other members of the gang identified as Afeez Kehinde and Mubo Jones at Daleko, Isolo and Olosha areas of Mushin.

He was said to have been released same day even though residents of the area believe there are enough evidence against him.

According to Punch, the suspect had once gone underground after a fake burial ceremony was held for him by members of his gang.

Sometime in 2011, during a violent clash between Wasiu’s gang and residents of the community, he was also arrested but released soon after.

It was learnt that in order to allow him to go underground, members of his gang printed his obituary and even held a ceremony in his honour to ‘announce’ to the Mushin community that he was dead.

Few years later, residents said he suddenly resurfaced to continue his alleged attacks in the area.

In October 2015, Wasiu allegedly led a group of his gang members on a show of force to Ikeolu Street, Mushin. But by the time their incursion into the area was over, a pregnant woman named Ruka, who was selling noodles in front of her house, had been gunned down.

Ruka’s husband was one of the individuals, who reacted to the arrest of Akinwande with jubilation.

The husband, Waheed, told Punch that, “I still remember that day like a dream. While everybody fled, my wife had no time to flee when Olori Eso and his gang came and started shooting in the area that day.

“But I am happy that the principal suspect in the murder of my wife is now in custody. I am glad. Many residents of Mushin are also happy. But should we continue to celebrate without the fear that he might be released? No.

“We are celebrating but at the same time afraid that he might be released the way he was arrested in January and released barely five hours after.

“You will realise that despite all the evidence against him, despite what people here know that he did, people around here would still be afraid of voicing out because they know there is the possibility of him being released to continue unleashing mayhem in area. This is why people are afraid to be happy that he has been arrested.”

An earlier murder case against members of his gang, had culminated in the arrest and arraignment of a colleague of his, Alayode Abiola, AKA Aloma.

The case involved the murder of a nine-year-old girl, Aminat Lateef, who was killed by the gang’s stray bullet in Fadeyi, Lagos, while returning from an errand on December 9, 2010.

At Ikeolu Street, residents reeled out allegations against Wasiu and his gang as they lauded his arrest.

A resident, who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisals, alleged, “A member of their gang, who had just come back from prison in January 2014, decided to renounce his membership but Olori Eso’s boys decided to kill him. The young man escaped with a gunshot injury to the hand.

“He was later hunted down and killed not long after that. Few years before that, a popular young footballer here called Isiaka, was also killed by the members of the gang the same day they held a peace talk with government officials. That is how ruthless the Olori Eso’s gang members are.”

But Lagos Police PRO, Dolapo Badmus, said the police had been on Wasiu's trail for a while before he was finally nabbed on Tuesday. They are hunting for other members of his group.

I aborted 320 Pregnancies – Abigail, Self-Confessed Human Trafficking Victim

Abigail
Abigail
When 26-year-old Abigail Olori met Alhaja Latifat and her husband three years ago, she felt she had met an angel in human form who would turn the odds of her life for good. Considering the fact that she had lost her parents and was saddled with the responsibility of catering for her siblings, she jumped at the offer to travel to Italy to work as an auxiliary nurse for the couple. Unknown to her, however, she was making the biggest mistake of her life.

A look into the eyes of the frail looking Abigail revealed misery, pains and betrayal that she has been subjected to in the last three years.

Coughing intermittently and straining herself to be audible, she narrated her ordeal in the hands of her traffickers. “I met Alhaja Latifat and her husband in 2013 when they came to Nigeria; then I was 23-years-old. I knew them via a relative of mine, Rofel, when I was residing in Bayelsa with my siblings. Rofel invited me to Lagos; it was during the visit to Lagos that I was introduced to Alhaja Latifat who promised to take me to Italy”, she stated.

“Before the journey, they said they wanted me to become an auxiliary nurse for them in Italy but unfortunately I found myself in Libya. They took me via the desert. We were about 30 that were taken to Libya from Nigeria.

Abigail
“Since I didn’t have parents, I was only able to raise N10, 000 which the alhaja claimed was for the passport she procured for me. The agreement was that I will work and pay her N2.4 million once I get to Italy which included the amount she spent to take me abroad and the return on her investment.

“Before we left Nigeria, they took us to a native doctor called Ewe in Abeokuta, Ogun State where we were made to swear an oath. It was after the oath that we were taken to Libya instead of Italy.

“Initially when I got to Libya and found out that my responsibility was to abort pregnancies for young girls, I refused but Alhaja Latifat and her husband locked me up in a room and beat me severely with a mop stick I had no option but to bulge. Each time I refused to perform abortion for any of the girls, they will lock me up and beat me.

“That was how I started assisting them to terminate unwanted pregnancies for the young girls who were working as call girls for Alhaja Latifat.

“We had girls within the ages of 10-15 working as call girls, sleeping with all sorts of men unprotected. Most of the girls were forced to sleep with elderly men as old as 60 years-old. Some of these girls confessed to me that they were hairdressing apprentices and fashion designers before they were deceived to come to Libya to work as prostitutes. “Any of the girls who refused to work, they will beat her up. Some of the girls who attempted to escape got into more trouble as they were resold to other traffickers in Libya.
“My main responsibility was to carry out abortion for the girls forced into prostitution. By my calculation, I would have aborted 320 pregnancies in the process. They built instrument which I used to perform the abortion on the girls. If a pregnancy was about a month, and the girl in question notified Alhaja Latifat about the development, the Alhaja Alhaja will not allow me to abort the baby till the pregnancy was about four or five months old.

“Apart from carrying out abortions, I also performed the job of a physician to the girls.

“They had about three houses which were used as brothels to house the girls who worked as call girls. I resided in one of the brothels called New York. The second was called White House. I can’t remember the name of the third one.

“I worked for the alhaja for about three years and I was able to raise the amount from the abortion I was performing on the girls and the money I got from my male friends who were into armed robbery in Libya. Like the call girls, I was not allowed to operate a bank account. Since I didn’t operate any bank account, the money I earned was kept with Alhaja Latifat. Within two years I was able to pay the N2.4m agreed amount on the contract and also give her N1.5M which I kept with her as my personal savings.

10 things we learnt from Wizkid versus Linda Ikeji saga

So earlier today singer, Wizkid attacked popular blogger, Linda Ikeji on her Instagram page, for publishing a story about the quit notice he got on his home in Lekki, Lagos.

A couple of hours after the attack, Linda Ikeji fired back at the singer for his ‘childish behavior’.
She took to her blog to address the situation by bashing the Starboy act, and also denied ever sleeping with any of Wizkid’s directors or anyone associated with him.

It didn't end there...Wizkid responded again via instagram.

Well, here are the things we learnt from the saga so far:
1. Wizkid is not 25 years old....

"And no, darling, you’re not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you. Kisses”

2. Wizkid’s Porsche Panamera which he bought in 2013 for a reported N14M was bought on lease aka hire purchase.

Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I just mentioned that!

3. Linda Ikeji doesn't get mad when peeps mock her for being single at her age..she is used to it.

“So my darling little ‘friend’ Wizkid came on my IG page this morning to blast me for writing yesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented. He threatened to beat me up…called me an ugly old bitch…(I’m ugly? lol) says I don’t have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser…(what a child).”
“Anyway, all that don’t matter, people have said worse to me…

But she plans to make it end soon!

" I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon…I’m getting old and missing out on that part of life…lol).”"

4. Linda is team #NoSexTillYourWeddingNight

I feel sex should only happen when you’re in committed relationship (that is if you can’t wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you’re not committed to someone. There’s absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It’s ugly and God don’t like ugly. So no, I’m not that woman, and will never be that woman.

5. Linda and Wizkid have never met

"First and foremost, I’ve never met Wizkid one on one. I’ve only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago.

6. Wizkid once reached out to Linda for a mutual understanding

“All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him. A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn’t like him and I was hurting his image online. He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting.”

7. Linda is trying hard not to make friends with the entertainers in the industry

“I am cordial with some of them…many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write. And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it’s hard to write about them because you feel you’re cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer ‘friends’ I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.

8.  Wizkid wants Linda to join hands with him to build a better and not a bitter world

9. Wizkid just built a house for his mum

10. Despite all, Linda still thinks Wizkid has an amazing talent
“Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don’t! I think he’s an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this wasn’t personal.

Fayose Plotting To Contest Presidency With Sheriff In 2019? PDP Leaders Rejects Them

Some power brokers in the Peoples Democratic Party are plotting to counter moves by the current Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff to transmute into the party’s presidential candidate in 2019.

There is a belief within the party that Sheriff and Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, are planning to jointly run for the presidency on the ticket of the PDP come 2019.

Could this be the reason Fayose has been attacking Buhari, so people will say he is PDP's voice?

A reliable source within the party told PUNCH that Fayose backed Sheriff for the chairmanship position as he (Fayose) had plans to be Sheriff’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

Sheriff, a former Governor of Borno State, had said that God “used Fayose to make me chairman.”

PDP, in control of two northern states (Gombe and Taraba), has zoned the presidency to the North in 2019.

A member of the Board of Trustees of the party from the North-East who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was no way both men would be allowed to fly the party’s ticket.

The source, a party man of years standing, said, “This is a joke of the century. These two are controversial. Sheriff has not even been allowed into the party fully.

“Now, they are saying he wants to be President. It isn’t possible. That will signify the death of the party as millions would either defect or go and form another party.”

A source within the party said some party chiefs were bothered by Sheriff and Fayose’s close relationship. In recent times, both men have attended social events together including the wedding of Fayose’s niece.

He said, “Sheriff is rich but he is not the richest northern politician in the PDP. He does not have the backing of the northern elements in the PDP given the fact that he is still quite new in the party. Sheriff’s tenure is meant to end by May but there is a plot to elongate his tenure till 2018 and in the process, gain control of the party structure. He will then resign and run for the presidency but we will not allow him.”

The source added, “Already, supporters of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, are spoiling for a fight as both also have presidential ambitions. In the current dispensation, the governors are two of the most influential PDP politicians from the North.

“Fayose has obviously miscalculated. He is going in October 2018 and his immunity will end seven months before Buhari’s tenure ends. With the way he has been attacking President Buhari, I don’t know how he will survive without his immunity within that period. He thinks his support for Sheriff will endear him to northern politicians but they are not happy with him with the way he has been attacking Buhari.”

Pres. Buhari to travel to China for a four-day state visit

Arrangements have been concluded for President Muhammadu Buhari’s official four-day state visit to the Peoples’ Republic of China from April 11-15.

The envoy said the visit was significant because it would strengthen diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria. President Buhari is also expected to sign a $3.5b loan for Nigeria railway.

BUSTED! Operatives Finally Nab Shekau’s Second-in-Command, Albarnawi

Vigilant security operatives on Friday made a major breakthrough in the intensified campaign against the Boko Haram insurgency by arresting the leader of the Ansaru Islamic Sect, Khalid Albarnawi.

The Acting Director Defence information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, confirmed the arrest of the top wanted terror suspect to one of Punch's correspondents on the telephone on Saturday.

He said Albanarwi was second in command to Abubakar Shekau in the hierarchy of Boko Haram.

He attributed the arrest of Albarnawi to effective collaborative efforts among the various security agencies in the country.

The acting Defence Spokesman said that with the arrest of the top leader of Ansaru, regarded as Shekau’s 2nd-in-command, the days of the Boko Haram Sect were numbered.

According to him, the terror suspect was cooperating with security operatives in volunteering information.

Abubakar was not specific about which of the security agencies were keeping the top terror suspect.

He called on Nigerians to cooperate with the security agencies in the ongoing onslaught on the Boko Haram by volunteering necessary information and intelligence.

He said, “I can confirm that he (Albarnawi) is in custody. It is a product of the existing synergy among the security agencies which led to this breakthrough in the war on terror.

“Nigerians should assist the security agencies with relevant information and intelligence, I can say that the days of Boko Haram are numbered.

“We have just confirmed that he has been nabbed and he is with the relevant agencies and as time goes, people would know how this kind of person was nabbed."

This is unbelievable ..Read what this woman wrote this on her facebook page
“For those who don’t know, me and my 15 year old son had a baby last year together. I had sex with him when he was 14 years old. The baby came out fine. Just to let you know, I also have three (3) daughters who are thirteen (13), fourteen (14), and sixteen (16).
My son is a great dad and also a great boyfriend to me.
This all started when I realized that I started to get feelings for him I decided to have a one and one talk with him. I told him “mommy loves you more than what it means to just be a mommy to you”. I also told him that “mommy likes you just like how a girl from school likes you.
I explained everything to him and got him to understand and he felt the same way as I did as he began to ask questions. He asked “so does that mean that we can kiss and hold hands like boyfriend and girlfriend?” I told him yes and even sex

Governor El-Rufai Dares Pastor Who Said He Will Die: Mention The Date of My Death

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai is known to be an action man, who takes action that would help sanitize society and damn the consequences. In an interview with select journalists, he speaks on the proposed CONTROVERSIAL religious preaching bill. Very interesting revelations:

One of your policies that has generated a lot of controversy is the religious preaching bill. What does the government want to achieve when it becomes law and how are you going to tackle the anxiety that it has generated among the people?
Kaduna State, more than any state in Nigeria, if you take out the Yobe, Borno and Adamawa axis, which suffered from Boko Haram insurgency, has suffered the most from death and destruction of property due to misuse and abuse of religion. More people have been killed in Kaduna from the words that people have said.

And if you go back in history to when the Maitasine incident happened; he was a Cameroonian that came to Nigeria and started preaching. The Emir of Kano had him deported back to Cameroon. After that, he managed to smuggle himself back again and continued preaching. He was preaching a version of Islam that was intolerant, a version that called other Muslims pagans and so on. But in spite of what he was preaching, he acquired followers and we all know what happened. Military operation had to be mounted to flush them out. Those that escaped from the Maitasine crisis moved to Borno State and started the Kalakato sect, which again led to many deaths and destruction in the early 1990s. All these came from people that were not trained in religious matters, people that woke up and started preaching and acquiring followers and inevitably their sects grew in large numbers to threaten communities and there were clashes.

That was also how Muhammed Yusuf started. He was a student of Sheik Jaafar Adam in Kano. They fell out because Jaafar felt that some of the views he was expressing were extreme and intolerant. He went and started his own sect and we all know what happened and we are still dealing with it.

Thus, when you have such things happening in your country, I think as leaders, we have to sit down and examine ourselves and the society and see what we can do to prevent it.

In my opinion, it is the lack of regulation of religion that led to all these circles of death and destruction. Just recently, we had the Shi’ite problem in Zaria, following a similar pattern.
I believe that before you start preaching in any religion, you should have gone through a system of education, training and some kind of certification. Even those that deal with the physical life get certified, let alone those that deal with the spiritual life. We initiated this bill from the Kaduna State Security Council, based on reports of new sects emerging in Kaduna State.

Are there recent cases?
There is one around Makarfi called Gausiyya, they do their Zuhr prayer around 11am, different from other Muslims. This is how this thing starts and if you don’t resolve it quickly, it grows into something else.

A woman in Makarfi said Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was speaking to her and sick people started going to her for their healing. The husband of this woman was busy collecting N1,000 as consultancy fee before people could see his wife. We had to take steps to end that movement because before you know it, people would start coming from far and wide and this woman would become our next problem.

It was the report of two or three of these that compelled us in the security council to ask the question, whether or not there was a law that regulates preaching. Then we were told there was a law; since 1984 after the Maitasine problems, the administration passed the law. It was subsequently amended several times to increase the fine and the imprisonment term. This is a living problem and we know it. Christian priests, the ones I know, go to seminary and spend so many years there, study under a more experienced Reverend to learn what to say and what not to say.

Religious leaders don’t preach hatred; they preach peace, tolerance and love. But today in my religion of Islam, anybody can wake up and start a sect; there is no control. In those days, from Islamiyya School, if you chose that line, you needed to study more books. After that, you would go to the East (Borno area) for more studies and training. Then from there, you would go to a mosque and begin to call people to prayer before you become an imam in any mosque. Before you became an imam of a Friday mosque, the community must agree that you were well learned and competent. But now, everyone can build a mosque, put up loudspeakers, call himself an imam and start disturbing people at night.

A priest that has gone through thorough teachings and training would not go and ask people to cause trouble and kill each other. They are trained men of GodIn Christendom today, we all know that some people would drink something overnight and wake up the next day and claim they are apostles, that God had spoken to them. You could not disproof that because you were not there with him and he would start to collect followers. When he begins to preach hatred, what can you do? Is it the society we want? This is the question. The logic behind this law is to strengthen the 1984 laws so as to regulate and ensure that those that are given the opportunity to preach at least know what they are doing, they have a level of responsibility to develop the society rather than divide it. This is our goal; we don’t have anything against any religion or anybody.

What about freedom of religion?
Some people have argued that there is freedom of religion, of course; Section 38 is very clear: We must not have a state religion, every Nigerian is allowed to practise their faith or even if they do not have any religion at all. However, those that are quoting Section 38 of the constitution conveniently forget Section 45 which says that you can regulate any human right if it would affect the right of others. You can practise your religion but you can’t do it in a way that abuses the right of another. There is nothing in this law that is not in conformity with the constitution, or there is nothing new about it other than expanding the scope and after we sent the bill to the House of Assembly, I saw an article that alerted us of what we did not include: Blocking of federal highways, but that is in the Penal Code. It is good to have put it there because every Friday you see most mosques blocking roads.

Why? We had to call them to a meeting to have a system that police would be there to guard and also control the traffic. In my opinion, this is a law that we need not only in Kaduna State but almost all states in Nigeria and I want to assure you that, I just came back from the National Economic Council meeting, and a handful of the governors asked me to send them our own law because they thought they also needed it in their state. Everybody is watching to see how we will handle our own. We sent it to the state assembly in October 2015 because some people are saying we sent it because of the Shi’ite problem. No! It was the state assembly that kept on looking at it and saying this one ‘na hot potato’ until now. But, on a very serious note, we don’t have any ulterior motive other than to put a framework that would ensure that Kaduna State people live in peace with everyone practising their religion and disallowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to come and say he can preach.

What is your take on the assumption by some in the state that hold that the bill is aimed at stopping the practice of Christianity and Islam in the state?
I have not seen anyone talking about Islam actually. Most of the people that say I would die, as if I would not die, are people who call themselves Christian clergy. Of course, I will die. If that apostle is truly an apostle, he should mention the day I will die. There is nothing in that law that prevents or infringes the practice of religion. It seeks to ensure that those that preach religion are qualified, trained and certified by their peers to do it. And some sections of the media have made it as if the law was drafted against Christianity. It is most irresponsible and I have nothing to say except to leave the matter to God.

Linda Ikeji replies Wizkid's insult - ''Oh Wizkid...what a child!

So my darling little 'friend' Wizkid came on my IG page this morning to blast me for writing yesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented. He threatened to beat me up...called me an ugly old bitch...(I'm ugly? lol) says I don't have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser...(what a child).

Anyway, all that don't matter, people have said worse to me...what I wanted to address is the part where he said I slept with his director and he left me in a hotel...that one I will definitely want to
address because some people actually believe it. That my dear friends, is a lie! Please continue...

First and foremost, I've never met Wizkid one on one. I've only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago. I've never met anybody who is his director. Guess he put that line in his comments to defame me. You that mad that people now know the house is not yours? Lol.

Trust me, if I knew someone was Wizkid's director, I'd rather kill myself than sleep with him or any other entertainer for that matter (except maybe he's my husband..hehe) because I know how some of these entertainers are...they kiss and tell a lot. You can't afford to be messing around in their circle. So, no, I have NEVER slept with Wizkid's director. I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon...I'm getting old and missing out on that part of life...lol)

I've always been an advocate of women respecting their bodies and owning their own. And I feel sex should only happen when you're in committed relationship (that is if you can't wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you're not committed to someone. There's absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It's ugly and God don't like ugly. So no, I'm not that woman, and will never be that woman. Nice try, Wizkid!

Having said that, I'm sure, you wonder why Wizkid is so mad at me? To be honest, I don't know either. All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him. A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn't like him and I was hurting his image online. He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting. Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don't! I think he's an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this wasn't personal. I just didn't want to meet him. If he lobbies me then it means I won't be able to write anything about him anymore...and my job is to write...about everything, including entertainers.

I am cordial with some of them...many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write. And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it's hard to write about them because you feel you're cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer 'friends' I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.

So Wizkid can bash me all he wants...but I will continue to do my job. Maybe he thinks the more he bashes me, then I will stop writing about him? Won't work. But meanwhile, if he tells a lie about me, I will address it. LIB plans to be around for a long time...some of these people will come and go! :-).

Thanks everyone and Wizkid fans for reading my response.

Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I just mentioned that! And no, darling, you're not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you.

"I only hope that they all survive and I can give them a wonderful life."
Dr Tekam, who led the team of doctors in the delivery, said:
"This is the first case in my career where I have delivered five babies through normal birth.
"We are very happy for the parents but the babies are under supervision as they all are premature.
"While they are healthy, we cannot say if they will survive.
"However, we are doing every bit to save them."
