Burundi Youth Threaten To 'Impregnate' Opposition Women
Hundreds of the youths known as Imbonerakure — "those who see from afar" in the local Kirundi language — are shown in military-like formation singing "impregnate the opposition so that they give birth to Imbonerakure".
The ruling CNND-FDD initially said the video which began circulating three days ago had been faked by the opposition, but was on Wednesday forced to admit its authenticity after it sparked outrage on social media networks. Smh!
Fayemi sues Ekiti Assembly, Demands N500m Damages
The Assembly had through one of its resolutions called on the Inspector General of Police to give effect to the warrant to bring Fayemi to the the legislative chamber to defend himself against allegation of misappropriation of State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) funds totalling N852 million.
The lawmakers also accused Fayemi, of fraud in the award of contracts during his administration between 2010 and 2014. Fayemi in a suit filed by his counsel, Rafiu Balogun, copies of which was made available to Vanguard, yesterday, said the action of the lawmakers was politically motivated and done in bad faith.
Fayemi is demanding from the Assembly the sum of N500 million as general damages for the embarrassment, odium, contempt and public ridicule the issuance of the summons and arrest warrant has caused him having been widely circulated in the print, electronic and online media.
He argued that the summons and warrant of arrest issued against him by the Assembly was done in gross violation of the provisions of Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Joined as defendants in the suit are the Assembly, the Speaker, the Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command.
Fayemi is seeking a perpetual injunction of the court restraining the 3rd and 4th defendants from arresting him or giving effect to the warrant of arrest issued by the 1st and 2nd defendants in total disregard of the provisions of Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The ex-governor is also praying the court for a declaration that the issuance of the warrant to compel his appearance to answer questions on the N852 million UBEC funds are issues before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the knowledge of 1st and 2nd defendants and against the doctrine of separation of powers.
In the affidavit in support of the Originating Summons, Fayemi said he knew as a fact that Ekiti State government did not constitute any Judicial Commission of Inquiry or an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate him or probe his tenure let alone finding him guilty or indicting him for any corrupt practices or misappropriation of funds.
He contended that the resolution to summon him to appear before the Assembly and the subsequent warrant of arrest was a calculated attempt to embarrass him and done to water down the effect of a libel suit he filed at an Abuja High Court against a lawmaker, Samuel Omotoso and an aide to the governor, Lere Olayinka.

Policeman Accused Of Assaulting, Fondling Female Ondo University Student
A Nigerian police officer identified as Corporal Yusuf Ibrahim has been accused of assaulting and molesting Omoromoke Comfort Adekunle, a final year female student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State.
Ms. Adekunle alleged that Corporal Ibrahim, whose police number is 364909, attacked her at a security checkpoint in Ago-yeye community along Owo/Akungba road. Several students who spoke to our correspondent described the police officer as a notorious extorter who is assigned to the ‘A Division’ of the Owo Divisional Police in Ondo State.
According to Ms. Adekunle, the officer attacked her for spurning his demands for a bribe, adding that Mr. Ibrahim was irate that she had recently told him she was opposed to bribery.
Ms. Adekunle, who suffered severe bodily injury in the assault, described her ordeal in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
In the statement, the final year student explained that she was in a vehicle headed for Akungba to submit her academic project at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) when Mr. Ibrahim ordered the vehicle to stop at a checkpoint at Ago-yeye on the Owo/Akunga road.
She said Corporal Ibrahim demanded that the driver pay a N50 bribe. She wrote that the driver, who did not have a N50 note, gave the police officer N500, expecting to receive change of N450. Instead, “the police officer went away with the money for more than five minutes without returning the change,” Ms. Adekunle wrote.
According to her, the police officer’s action infuriated the passengers who were losing patience with his behavior. She wrote that she and other passengers “became impatient with the policeman and even the driver for giving [a] bribe and wasting [their] time,” adding that rain was about to fall and she was anxious to get to the university to submit her academic assignment.
Ms. Adekunle stated that the driver went to the police officer to ask for change of N450. Instead of giving the change, Mr. Ibrahim walked to the vehicle and began rebuking and threatening passengers for criticizing him as a police officer.
According to Ms. Adekunle, as the passengers did not utter a word to him, the furious officer pointed to her “and asked if I was deaf or dumb because he was talking to us and we were not responding.” She said the officer hurled abuses at her and accused her of being a prostitute.
She added that the unruly officer at one point opened the front door of the vehicle, dragged her out, and punched her on her neck and mouth, causing her to bleed heavily from the nose.
Ms. Adekunle stated that the officer tore her blue and white-striped gown and, in the presence of other passengers, began to fondle her breasts and to lewdly touch other parts of her body in the guise of searching her. She said her fellow passengers cried for help as she underwent her ordeal at the hands of Mr. Ibrahim. Ms. Adekunle's dress was torn by the police officer
She stated that Corporal Ibrahim seized her iPhone 7, which rang as he touched her, adding that, when she demanded for the phone, the officer pulled his gun and threatened to shoot her as well as the driver who was pleading with him to stop the molestation.
Ms. Adekunle’s statement said the officer “even threatened to burn our vehicle (bus) into ashes and that nothing would happen,” adding that the officer was eventually pacified by another transporter who pleaded with Mr. Ibrahim “to drop his gun to avoid killing us like animals.”
She said the officer threatened to spray teargas on her, and then punched her on the chest and neck.
“I fainted in the process but I was later revived by other passengers some minutes after,” wrote the student. “My mouth was full of blood and I was taken to a hospital where I received treatment and [got] placed on drugs due to the heavy attack,” she further recounted.
Our correspondent learnt that Ms. Adekunle’s lawyer has already petitioned the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, over her harrowing experience that caused her physical and emotional injury.
The victim’s lawyer, Charles Titiloye, urged the Commissioner of Police to investigate the assault and to prosecute the accused police officer. Speaking to our correspondent, Mr. Titiloye said the randy police officer was apparently drunk when he assaulted his client. He stated that the officer’s punch on Ms.
Adekunle chest had left the student “terribly weak and in pain,” adding that the assaulted student continued to receive treatment and was put on drugs after being discharged from the hospital.
“Her health has since deteriorated as a result of the incident, so we are urging the Police Commissioner in Ondo State to fully investigate this incident and prosecute the said officer for the assault on our client,” Mr. Titiloye said.
A source at the Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the office of the Commissioner of Police had received the petition submitted by Ms. Adekunle’s lawyer. He added that Corporal Ibrahim had been summoned to appear at the Akure headquarters of the police command for interrogation.
“I’m sure the commissioner will be having a meeting with the lawyer and the two parties involved in this case sometime this week,” the source said.

Russia moves to completely ban Jehovah's Witnesses
The justice ministry has already placed its headquarters near St Petersburg on a list of extremist groups.
An estimated eight million people worldwide are part of the Christian-based movement, best known for going door to door looking for new converts.
It has 175,000 members in Russia and 395 branches across the country.
As the case began in Moscow on Wednesday, lawyers representing the movement submitted a counter suit, asking the High Court to declare its members victims of political repression and the justice ministry's action unlawful.
The court ruled that this was not part of its jurisdiction, but did not say whose it was, Russia's legal information agency reported. The case was eventually adjourned until Thursday.
The ministry argues that the Jehovah's Witnesses' activities "violate Russia's law on combating extremism" and their pamphlets incited hatred against other groups.

Woman Nabbed by EFCC Claims She Made $544,000 Selling "Pure Water"

EFCC takes over Five Suspected Oil Thieves from NNS
Five suspected oil thieves are currently undergoing investigation at the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for dealing in petroleum products suspected to be Automated Gas Oil (AGO).
The suspects, Jeffery Adaboke, Ayebaene Kalango, Prince Legbosi, Tega Adade, Ifeanyi Silvanus were arrested by officers of NNS PATHFINDER Naval Base Port Harcourt, Rivers State on 1st of April, 2017 around Isaka axis onboad Tug Boat PK111 and a metal barge laden with products suspected to be AGO.
The suspects were handed over to the Commission for further investigation by E. R. Ekuma, Commander, Nigeria Navy.
An Operative of the Commission, Gidado Musa, who represented the zonal Head EFCC South/South, received the suspects, Tug boat and the metal barge on behalf of the Commission.
The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
Italy Deports 40 Nigerians

17 year old Nigerian Ifeoma White-Thorpe admitted by all 8 Ivy League schools
She got admitted to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton and Stanford.
Ifeoma who attends Morris Hills High School in Denville, is now figuring out which of the prestigious schools she’d like to go to in order to further her education, which she thinks will be focused on global health.
Her proud parents, Andre and Patricia White-Thorpe, said they will leave the final decision up to the brilliant teen. Patricia, nee Eluemunor, is a pharmacist, according to her records, while the husband is a computer expert.
“I want to go into global health and study biology, and so many of them have great research facilities, so I was like, I might as well just shoot my shot and apply,”
“I got into Harvard early-action, so I figured I’ll just go there, so then I got into all the others and I was like, ‘Wait, now I don’t know where I want to go,’” Ifeoma added.
When she got her acceptance letters, she almost couldn’t believe it.
“I was shaking, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, like this might be eight out of eight,’ and I clicked it and it said ‘Congratulations,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness,’ and then I was like, ‘What did I say?’” she recalled. “I think my love for poetry and writing just really stood out.”
“At this point, none of the schools I’ve applied to said they give merit scholarships, so I’m praying that they give me some more financial aid or some money. Shout out to all of those schools, please give me something,” Ifeoma said with a laugh.
The Ivy League is made of up Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.
Students getting into all of the Ivies is a monumental feat, but it’s happened to a handful of teens over the past couple of years — Kwasi Enin in 2014, Harold Ekeh in 2015 and Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna and Kelly Hyles last year.

Further hearing in the case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery preferred against the trio was adjourned till April 11.
Babalola, currently serving with Kogi Command of the NSCDC, was alleged to have committed the offense, along with the two others, on Dec. 9, 2016, at Lokogoma village in Lokoja.
NAN quotes Mr Kadiri Mukailu, victim of the robbery attack, as telling the court, in his testimony that on the said date, the trio, armed with guns and other weapons, invaded his residence at Lokogoma, forcefully collected his car keys, and drove the vehicle away.
Mukailu said that the car, which has not been recovered, was taken away by the trio along with his UBA ATM card.
Others items taken away by the accused, he said, included two phones valued at N16,000, a wrist watch valued at N1,500, 10 pieces of cloth valued at N30,000 and the vehicle’s original particulars.
He told the court that during the robbery operation, which lasted for two hours, he had a full glimpse of the faces of the armed robbers because the lights were on and the suspects did not wear masks.
The victim stressed that he particularly remembered Kolawale Samson who had ”scattered teeth”, wielded a big gun and called himself “MOPOL”.
Mukailu also told the court that his family members recognised Babalola as the robber that attacked his house when, on Jan. 8, he returned to the vicinity for another robbery operation.
“When the robbery gang came on Jan. 8, I immediately drew the attention of members of a local vigilante, who condoned off the premises and alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects along with Babalola,” he said.
In his defense, Babalola said he was a neighbour to Mukailu at Lokogoma, but denied being part of any robbery.
He told the court that he was in his house on Dec. 9, 2016, when three men, who claimed to be policemen, accosted him and told him that they were trailing some criminals, who entered Mukailu’s house.
“As a security officer, I asked if I could follow them, but they rejected that request. I even reported the incident to my superiors in the office the following day,’’ he said.
Babalola said he was surprised when he was arrested in his house at Lokogoma, on Jan. 8, along with the two other suspects, and taken to the `D’ Division of the Kogi Police Command.
The accused, however, admitted that he saw some people driving off in the said car, on the day of the robbery, but did not know who they were, and further told the court that the two co-accused were his brother and friend.
