Trump, Putin Meet For The First Time At G20
Trump has said he wants to find ways to work with Putin, a goal made more difficult by sharp differences over Russia’s actions in Syria and Ukraine, and allegations Moscow meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
That means every facial expression and physical gesture will be analyzed as much as any words the two leaders utter. The Kremlin said the two enjoyed a passing handshake at the summit ahead of the talks later in the day.
“I look forward to all meetings today with world leaders, including my meeting with Vladimir Putin. Much to discuss,” Trump wrote in a tweet today. “I will represent our country well and fight for its interests!”
The meeting is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. local time, shortly after a G20 working session on climate and energy begins.
Trump, who has angered world leaders with his decision to pull the United States out of the Paris accord on climate change, will likely have to leave that session early to make the Russia meeting.
Some fear the Republican president, a political novice whose team is still developing its Russia policy, will be less prepared for their sit-down than Putin, who has dealt with the last two U.S. presidents and scores of other world leaders.
“There’s nothing … the Kremlin would like to see more than a (U.S.) president who will settle for a grip and a grin and walk away saying that he had this fabulous meeting with the Kremlin autocrat,” Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives’ Intelligence Committee, said in an interview on MSNBC.
As investigations at home continue into whether there was any collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia, the U.S. president has come under pressure to take a hard line against the Kremlin.
Moscow has denied any interference and Trump says his campaign did not collude with Russia.
On Thursday, Trump won praise from at least one Republican hawk in the U.S. Congress after his speech in Warsaw in which he urged Russia to stop its “destabilizing activities” and end its support for Syria and Iran.
“This is a great start to an important week of American foreign policy,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has often been critical of Trump on security issues.
But earlier in the day, Trump declined to say definitively whether he believed U.S. intelligence officials who have said that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
“I think it was Russia but I think it was probably other people and/or countries, and I see nothing wrong with that statement. Nobody really knows. Nobody really knows for sure,” Trump said at a news conference, before accusing Democratic former President Barack Obama of not doing enough to tackle hacking.

But people should apply wisdom. That was how one of our friends too was lynched to death last Sunday at Odongunyan but glory be to God mine was not beyond control," he concluded.

According to (PPRO), Terna Tyopev, Dashit, an employee of the National Industrial Court (NIC), who resides at New Abuja area of Jos, killed the wife, a 33-year-old teacher, at their farm in Kangang, on June 2. .
Dashit, after allegedly killing the woman, invited his brother to help him to convey her to hospital after lying that she slumped a few minutes after she complained of feeling dizzy. .
A family source said that prior to the incident the couple had faced lots of problems leading to persistent domestic violence. The source said that the situation got worse in May 2016, when the deceased caught her husband in bed with their house help, Nora, in their home. .
Irene sent the girl out of the house, but the girl came back two months later and told the husband that she was pregnant. “Nora’s pregnancy aggravated the problems in their marriage; at a point, Irene fled to her parents’ house in Gindiri, but was persuaded to return to her husband’s house by their pastor.
The pastor persuaded her to return in November 2016, after intervening in the quarrel. She became pregnant immediately,” a source revealed. Irene had two daughters, while the unborn baby, a male, removed from her womb after she died, did not survive. .
Investigation by medics revealed marks on Irene's neck, which suggested that she was strangled. “The doctors quickly reported the matter at the Anglo Jos Police Station where Dashit owned up to strangling his wife,” the source added. .
Tyopev, while describing the incident as “unfortunate”, blamed the development on alleged infidelity, saying that Dashit had equally confessed to impregnating his housemaid. “He confessed to holding the woman by the neck, but said he did not intend to kill her,” he said.

Policewoman arrested for helping 'kidnapper' Evans escape justice in 2006
The Nation gathered that the woman, simply identified as Tina, is now a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). She was unmasked by a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris to probe Evans’ 2006 arrest, transfer from Lagos State to Imo State and eventual release.
After the suspect’s arrest last month, a senior police officer told reporters that his team apprehended Evans in 2006 after a bank robbery.
The officer had claimed that Evans and his gang members had a gun duel at the National Theatre in Surulere, Lagos Mainland after a disagreement in sharing their loot, adding that the kingpin was shot and left to die.
According to the officer, Tina, who was a Superintendent of Police (SP) at the time, mounted pressure on them to release Evans and two of his members but when her request was not met, she went through Imo State Command, where a signal was sent for the transfer of the suspects.
As a result of the revelations, IGP Idris constituted a panel to investigate the 2006 arrest, transfer and eventual release of Evans and his members.
The panel was to identify all officers who had a hand in the matter, whether serving or retired.
According to a source, the panel has made “reasonable progress” in its investigation because almost all the officers that took part in the “rape of justice” have been identified.
He said the police might soon release statement on the issue.
The source said:
“I can tell you that Tina is not the woman’s real name but I won’t give you her name. I can also tell you she’s now a CSP and still in service. So many officers took part in that 2006/2007 release of Evans and they are being investigated. The panel has made progress and almost all of them have been identified. An official statement might be release by the authorities soon.”
Lagos Pupils’Abduction: Kidnappers Break Silence, Promise To Free Children
Punch Metro learnt yesterday that the kidnappers also allowed the parents to speak with all the children, promising that they would be released soon.
It was gathered that the kidnappers did not request that the parents or the government pay any additional ransom. The children had spent 41 days in captivity as of Wednesday.
Three days after notifying the college of the attack, the gunmen broke into the boys’ hostel around 6am on Thursday, May 25.
They picked 10 Senior Secondary School pupils from the hostel and led them to a waterside, where their speedboat was anchored.
The pupils were screened based on their family backgrounds. While four were consequently released, the assailants whisked away the remaining six pupils, identified as Peter Jonah, Isiaq Rahmon, Adebayo George, Judah Agbausi, Pelumi Phillips and Farouq Yusuf.
After a prolonged negotiation, the kidnappers eventually settled for N100m ransom for all the children.
The parents had protested at the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s office on Wednesday, June 7, accusing the government of indifference and asking it to facilitate the release of the children.
Eventually, the parents raised and paid N10m to the captors on June 9.
The following day, they demanded additional N40m ransom and went incommunicado, leaving the parents in confusion.
However, some parents, who spoke with our correspondent on Wednesday on condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers had established contact with them again.
They said the gang allowed them to speak with all the children and assured them of their safety.
A parent said, “They have called again and promised to release our children soon. But they did not specify when and where they will be released. They allowed one of us to speak with all the children and they assured the parent that the kids are safe.
“Our plea is that they should have mercy on us and free these children. We cannot wait to see them.”
Another parent, who also confirmed the phone call, said the kidnappers did not demand further ransom.
The parent said, “It is true they have contacted us and made a promise to free our children very soon. In fact, we have been on the lookout since yesterday (Tuesday). We just hope they will not renege on their promise again. They did not request more ransom. We pray that they do not change their minds.
“We are a bit relieved to hear from the children again after about three weeks’ break, but the most important thing is their freedom. We want to see our children.”
Asked why rescue operations had not yielded results despite repeated assurances in the last few weeks, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said efforts had been intensified.
He said, “We are ensuring security awareness and presence in all schools in the state.
“The police are also working with other security agencies and all stakeholders to dialogue on the best way to police the state.
“Such efforts will lead to reduction in crimes and the rescue of the schoolchildren.
“The police are working round-the-clock to rescue them very soon.”
Meanwhile, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria says the inability of security operatives to rescue the six kidnapped pupils undermined the investment of the state government on security.
The Amir (President) of the MSSN in Lagos State, Dr Saheed Ashafa, said this in a press statement on Wednesday.
He said allowing the children to spend 41 days (by Wednesday) in captivity showed that security in Lagos needed reforms.
He said, “The continuous stay of the pupils with kidnappers means that the investment of the state government in security has yielded little or no result. The situation is an embarrassment on the much rated Lagos State.”
Ashafa, who lamented the psychological torture that the pupils would be going through, prayed for their safe rescue, urging the parents of the victims to be hopeful.
Ashafa deplored the spate of criminality bedeviling the peace of the state in recent times.
“We appeal the state government not to relent in its effort to maintain a crime-free Lagos,” he added.

Despite Denying Suing The Police, Court To Hear Evans’ Case July 13
Evans, through his lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, filed the suit last week urging the court to order the police to charge him to court or release him immediately.
He urged the court to award N300m damages against the police in his favour for his alleged unlawful detention without being charged to court.
A source at the court said on Wednesday that the case was initially assigned to Justice Babs Kuewumi, but was later returned to the court’s registry to enable it to be assigned to another judge who would hear it during the court’s long vacation.
The source said, “The case was assigned to Justice Kuewumi. But due to its nature, the judge felt it would be better handled by a vacation judge.
“He felt it would not be ideal to adjourn it for hearing until after the long vacation in September.
“So, it was the judge who gave parties the July 13 date to appear before the vacation judge after studying the file.”
In the suit, Evans is seeking a court’s order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the constitution.
He is, in the alternative, seeking an order compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence that will warrant his being charged to court.
Evans is contending that his continued detention by the respondents since June 10, 2017, without being charged to court or released on bail is an infringement on his fundamental human rights.
Saraki, Ekweremadu Back Melaye Against Recall, Says Exercise No Fear
Saraki said this after Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, contributed to a motion moved by Melaye on the recall process, The Cable reports.
Melaye had told his colleagues that Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, was behind the move to
eject him from the upper legislative chamber.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already fixed July 10 and August 19 for the verification of signatures on the recall register, saying the outcome of the verification would determine whether the commission would proceed to conduct a referendum.
“As they say, 10 years is no joke in leadership. The deputy president of the senate has explained the processes. Let the process speak for itself,” Saraki said.
“I really don’t know why a lot of efforts are being wasted on this issue. These efforts should have gone on more important things. Eventually, it must come back here for us to certify whether it is satisfactory.”
Earlier, Ekweremadu compared the process of recall to impeachment, saying the national assembly made it strict to avoid abuse.
He said debating the matter at plenary would amount to waste of “precious legislative time”.
“What is happening in Kogi, in respect of Senator Dino Melaye, as far as this constitution is concerned, it is an exercise in futility. They are just wasting precious time because the constitution is clear on what should happen,” Ekweremadu said.
“It is possible that the attorney-general of Kogi state has not advised them properly. If he had done that, I am sure they would have applied their time to more meaningful ventures in the state. The process of recall is the equivalent of impeachment of executive positions.
“To avoid the abuse of impeachment, they made it very strict, provisions and procedures were made on how impeachment can take place. That is why people are not taking that route of removing governors by impeachment.
“In 2010, this parliament amended the constitution regarding section 69. It states that the number of those who are supposed to have requested his (Melaye) recall are supposed to line up somewhere in Kogi, while Melaye and his lawyers and each person would verify their signature.
“When they are done with that, they go back to section 68 which states that the president of the senate receives from the chairman of INEC the recall of the member. They would also present evidence satisfactory to the house. So, they need to come back here and convince each and every one of us that they have done the correct thing. Unless they do that, they cannot even give effect to it. So, why are we wasting our time? Let us move on and allow them to waste their time.”
Earlier, Melaye reiterated that names of dead people appeared on the recall register sent to INEC.
“The total score of both valid and invalid vote is 118,000 but my governors and his appointees in four days claimed they got a signature of over 188,000. They got INEC database of registered voters and copied in one writing into a recall register and forged all the signature,” he said.
“As I speak to you over 120 dead certificates issued by the national population commission and these people relations and families have sworn to the affidavit and these certificates have been deposited.
“This orchestration, injustice, lies, malicious manifestation by my governor must not be entertained in a democracy, not because it is Dino Melaye. It could be anybody.”

UPDATE: Missing Siblings From Cotonou Found In An Orphanage Home
SiblingsRidwan Adeleke and his sister Nimata,aged 10 and 7 respectively, have been found days after they were declared missing in the Eyita area of Ikorodu.
The kids who was brought to Nigeria by their mum for the Muslim break from Cotonou, left home Saturday evening and didn't return.

they were picked up at a motherless babies home in Mushin this morning.

Osinbajo Risks Impeachment As Senate Asks Him To Withdraw Statement On Powers Of Confirmation
The Senate has also vowed to suspend all issues relating to confirmation from the Executive until Strong indications have emerged today that the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo risks being impeached if the executive fails to carry out the decisions of the Senators as the Senate has asked him to as a matter of urgency withdraw such matters of confirmation as contained in the constitution were strictly adhered to, just as it urged the Acting President to respect the constitution of the land.
The Senate has also asked Acting President Osinbajo to respect rejections of nominees by the Senate.
Resolutions of the Senate were sequel to a point of Order raised by Senator Ahmed Sani, APC, Zamfara West that a letter from Acting President Osinbajo on the appointment of Lanre Gbajabiamila as the Director General, National Lottery Commission.
Soon after Senate President Bukola Saraki read the letter from the Acting President, Senator Ahned Sani raised the point of Order which later generated hot debate from other Senators.
Private Jet With 9 On Board Crashes Into SEA
There are reported to be nine people on board. Their condition is not yet known.
The jet, a Gulfstream III, is commonly used by the wealthy and elite.
The aircraft left Simon Bolivar International Airport yesterday afternoon and was heading for Santiago Marino Caribbean International Airport.
It's said that the plane lost control after a 'technical error'.
Alfredo Pulido Pinto, commander of the Integral Defense Operational Zone of that state, reported that an action team was immediately deployed to deal with the situation.
