Alapomedji crooner, 9ice, has revealed how scared he was upon finding out he was going to be a father at 28, with ex-wife, Toni Payne.

“When news of my first child’s pregnancy got to me, I was gripped with fear because I thought I was too young to father a child. I was just 28-years old at that time so I wasn’t really prepared emotionally or otherwise, I felt I wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment”, he revealed.

 He stressed that the birth of his first child, Zion, inspired his hit song titled No be mistake. “When my son was finally born, it became clear to me that his birth was not a mistake; this was what actually inspired me to write and sing the song No be mistake”.

5 Killed As Container Falls Atop Danfo In Lagos

5 persons have reportedly lost their lives in the early hours of Saturday after a truck fell on a bus in the Ojota area of Lagos. The occupants of the bus were said to be church goers returning from a monthly vigil.
The incident which happened around 4am, occurred when a truck carrying two 20ft containers fell on a commercial bus with Reg. No. FST 944 XR, and crushed five persons to death on the spot.

Mr Adesina Jamiu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the accident, said that three other passengers were rescued.

“The incident happened at about 4.45 a.m. We got the information about eight minutes later we immediately moved down. We activated all primary rescue respondents,
“We brought out one female and two males alive. Unfortunately, five others, a boy of about 10 years, a woman and three men were brought out dead after using crane to lift the containers.
“The dead bodies were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, while those alive were taken to Lagos State Emergency unit at old Toll Gate Alausa.
“The truck with Reg. No. AKD 663 XF and the bus will be taken to LASTMA yard at Oshodi,” he said.

Jamiu, however, blamed the accident on overloading and bad conditions of the truck, stressing that the two 20ft containers were too heavy for the old truck to carry.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, while confirming the incidents, said that investigation had already begun, adding that the police was on the trail of the truck driver.

It took the personnel from the police, LASEMA, FRSC and Rapid Response Service about five hours to remove the truck and containers from the road.

Notorious kidnapper Evans vanishes

After weeks of  media frenzy, a sudden blackout has descended on the case of Chukwuduneme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, Nigeria’s infamous billionaire kidnapper, thus fuelling speculations that he’s escaped, or dead.

Saturday Sun has however gathered that Evans is not dead as his family now fears but has been moved from the Lagos police command headquarters cell by about 30 heavily armed men at midnight few days ago to an undisclosed destination. Some senior police officers in the know told Saturday Sun he was moved to Abuja.


All a Saturday Sun reporter who visited the state police command was told was that Evans is no longer allowed to talk to the press till further notice. The secrecy surrounding his whereabouts in the official quarters baffles those who have closely followed his story since his arrest.

After days of sniffing around the Lagos police formations to get information on Evans whereabouts, it was gathered that the kidnap kingpin had been moved out of the Lagos command headquarters days ago by heavily armed policemen and is yet to be returned.

Police had last week said they had got a court order to detain him for three months to give them enough time to complete their investigation. This followed two suits filed by Evans lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, at the High Court seeking   his release and claiming N300m damages from the police.
Some senior police officers who spoke to Saturday Sun on condition of anonymity expressed fears that Evans might not make it to the court.


They argued that he might plot his escape from prison, or get across to some of his members who are still on the run. Their concerns are not farfetched, given that several inmates in the past had reportedly committed much heinous crimes even while in prison.
Some of the officers confirmed that Evans was no longer in the police cell in Lagos. “He has not been returned since he was moved out. Evans is a broken man; police can’t resort to extra-judicial killings at this point. He is cooperating, and he is ready to help return all his ill-gotten wealth as soon as possible”, one of the officers said.
Another reliable source at the police command told Saturday Sun

“Evans is not an ordinary criminal. I guess that they took him out for further investigation but I don’t know why they are yet to return him to his cell.” The source further assured: “No one is planning to kill Evans. I believe that they will return him later. He could be in any good cell in the state for security reasons, but I can assure you that he is not dead yet. Even if anything happens to him, if he dies in custody, it will be as a result of cancer which he claims  he is suffering from.”

Yet another senior police officer who preferred anonymity assured that Evans is okay.

“He is okay and seriously cooperating with the police in its investigation. From the look of things, he might not spend up to three months in detention before he’s charged to court. As for his location, I assure you that he is in a protective custody somewhere out of town.” The officer who reinforced fears within the police circle, said that “a criminal is always a criminal,” adding that, “with the number of robbery cases and kidnappings to his credit, he is well known among criminals.”

He told Saturday Sun:

“Within the short period that he spent in our cell, he is already controlling inmates in the cell. They fear and respect him; we do not want to run the risk of allowing him to form another notorious group which is common amongst them.”

 On why his family is yet to get access to him, the officer said that they are yet to approach the police.

“A lot of his family members benefitted from his ill-gotten wealth, so they are afraid to come close to the police station.

Evans confirmed that he bought a car for his father and also gave him N3m. The police will recover such money and properties.

We will soon get a warrant to pick his father up and possibly his mother, who also benefitted.”

Calls and text messages to both the Lagos Police Spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole and the Force PRO, Moshood Jimoh on the official position of the Police on Evans’ whereabouts were neither answered nor responded to as at 10pm yesterday.

No going back on Magu’s rejection- Senate

The position of the Senate on the rejection of Mr.Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) still stands, spokesman for the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, Mr. Sabi Abdullahi,said yesterday.

 Abdullahi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media,spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in reaction to Thursday’s statement by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo that Magu ‘’will remain the EFCC chairman as long as I remain the Acting President and as well as Muhammadu Buhari remains the President.’’Mr. Abdullahi said:

 “the Senate has already made its resolution, and our resolutions are official statements. “And most times, based on how we communicate, we don’t go to press immediately because somebody has made a statement; we usually discuss issues.
“You know before we made that resolution the issue was debated. It is not because the executive has said something, we will react to it. We discuss issues first. “That is what makes up an institution. Nobody in the Senate is expressing his individual opinion. We are expressing the opinion of the Senate, its stand and its position. “We have given it a resolution. For now that is what subsists, and until we get a response, otherwise officially, we are not going back.” He asked all arms of government to respect the rule of law for the deepening of the democracy in the country.

Nigerian posing as judge, jailed in UK over £10m benefits scam

An illegal immigrant who headed a gang which used the identities of MPs, judges and police officers to con the taxpayer out of millions of pounds was jailed for more than five years.
Kayode Sanni, 38, received a jail term of five years and three months for his part in the elaborate scam.
Fraudsters stole personal details from the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC), which provides sport and fitness facilities to more than 120,000 public sector employees and pensioners.


CSSC events manager Adedamola Oyebode, 30, stole membership lists and passed them on to her brothers-in-law Oluwatobe Emmanuel Odeyemi, 34, and Oluwagbenga Stephen Odeyemi, 39, who ran the fraud with Kayode Sanni, 38.

According to Mailonline, the gang managed to get away with £2,500,000 before staff at Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs spotted the 'extraordinarily high rate' of claims being made by civil servants.

If the scam had not been stopped it could have reaped more than £10,260,525, the Old Bailey heard.
Illegal immigrant Sanni 'lied through his teeth' and told jurors 'my conscience is clear' after denying involvement in the scam.

Emmanuel Odeyemi, Chantelle Gumbs and Adedamole Oyebode had already pleaded guilty to fraud charges.
Odeyemi was jailed for three and a half years, Gumbs was handed a 15-month sentence suspended for two years, and Oyebode received a two-year sentence suspended for two years.

Sanni expressed remorse for the scam in a letter following his conviction but  judge Paul Dodgson was not impressed. He said:

”I think he is remorseful that he got caught.“I’m sorry, I just can’t regard that as sincere. “I can’t see how someone who contested the matter, who in the jury’s judgement, and in mine as well, just blatantly lied throughout and then claimed to be remorseful'There is no doubt that much of the money has been sent to Nigeria.'

Apparently the feud between music artistes, Kcee and his former label mate, Harrysong, is far from over. On Wednesday, Harrysong posted a court document showing that Kcee had dragged him to court. The next day, Harrysong’s manager in an interview said that Kcee filed the lawsuit because his career was dead.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the Limpopo singer claimed that Harrysong had no visa on his passport before he came on board, adding that his record label helped to build his self-confidence.

Police Rescue 14 Passengers Kidnapped In Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued 14 passengers, who were kidnapped on Thursday by gunmen.

The rescue was said to have come less than 24 hours after they (bus passengers) were whisked away by their captors around Rumuji in Emohua Local Government Area of the state by their captors.

It will be recalled that the passengers were travelling from Warri in Delta State to Port-Harcourt on Thursday when the bus conveying them was hijacked by gunmen before they were whisked away to an unknown destination.

The victims were said to have been dragged into the bush by their captors, who later demanded for N14 million before they would be released.


But speaking to our correspondent on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, explained that the rescue was made possible by a well-meaning Nigerian, who gave information to the police on the whereabouts of the kidnap victims.

Omoni disclosed that the police swung into action immediate, combed the bush before engaging the hoodlums in a shoot-out.

“During the shootout, they later abandoned the victims and as I speak with you, they have all been rescued. We were able to get information from a well-meaning Nigerian, which helped us to rescue them.

“We were able to do this less than 24 hours after they (passengers) were kidnapped in Rumuji,” the state police spokesman stressed.

Omoni, however, warned kidnappers and other criminals to desist from their acts or be ready to face the wrath of the law whenever they were apprehended.

A twenty-five year old man, Sunday Imoh, has been paraded by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly dumping his six-month-old daughter in public dustbin in the Edim-Otop axis of the Calabar metropolis.

The child has since not been found after Imoh claimed to have dumped her by the side of the dustbin on June 6, 2017.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, who paraded Imoh alongside 62 other criminal suspects on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Calabar, said the suspect allegedly put the little girl in a carton and abandoned her by the street side after a quarrel with the mother over the child’s upkeep.


Inuwa said, “On June 6 at about 12noon, one Emem Edet (23) left her family house at 25, Edim-Otop Street with her child of about six months old to visit her boyfriend and biological father of her child, Sunday Imoh who resides at 100, Edim-Otop Street.

“She went to collect money for the upkeep of the child, but he refused to give her. This made her to abandon the child with him. Surprisingly, the following day, the said Sunday Imoh alleged that he put the child in a carton and dumped her beside the dustbin along the street. Up till now, no information on the whereabouts of the child is available.  He has confessed and will be charged to court.”

But in an interview with Southern City News, Imoh said that he left the child outside the house after the mother had left her with him.

“She was just crying over and over again. I took her outside with the hope that the mother would go and pick her up but I was surprised when they said that she was missing,” he said.

The commissioner also paraded 10 murder suspects for allegedly killing four people during a clash between two rival cult groups, Klans and Baggers confraternity in Ochong community in Obubra Local Government Area of the state.

“On June 8 2017, we received an intelligence report in our Ikom Area Command office that two rival cult groups, Klans and Baggers confraternity clashed in Ochon community and the conflict led to the killing of four persons.

“As a result, 10 suspects believed to be principal actors in the murder case were arrested. Investigation is still on, while those arrested will soon be charged to court,” he said.

Similarly, the Commissioner also paraded one Nnamoso Okon and Victor Edet for stealing a car battery from the vehicle of a police officer who was on night duty on July 2, 2017.

He added that during a search, the police recovered 12 car batteries from the two suspects.

“From May 2017 till date, the Cross River police command has arrested a total of 63 suspects for various offences committed across the state.

“So far, we have recovered nine locally made pistols, seven live cartridges, 12 car batteries, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, three machetes, 10 motor batteries, armoured cables, three plasma television sets among others,” he said.

I Was Hospitalised, Sacked After My Philipino Boss Beat Me- Factory Worker

A Nigerian worker, Omoghiboria Justina, who was sacked from a South African packaging company at Agbara, Ogun State, Nampak Bevcan Nigeria, has cried out over the injustice that led to her sacking.

Ordinarily, Omoghiboria’s sacking could have been dismissed as part of working in a factory, but according to the woman, her former plant manager, a Philipino named Rosendo Pelagio, orchestrated her exit after assaulting her.

According to the Edo State indigene, who until June 22, 2017 was the company’s finish pallet inspector, she was assaulted by Pelagio on May 6 over her inability to pick a phone call to her by the Philipino.


The 29-year-old woman told Saturday Punch, “I was on duty that day from 6am to 9pm. We had a problem called axial load failure which involved checking the strength of cans. I did my normal procedure, but needed to sign some papers as part of quality instructions. It was already 9pm which was my closing time that day but I could not just leave without inputting the records in a computer.

“That was what I was doing when he came and approached me angrily, demanding to know why I did not pick his missed calls. It was then I checked my phone and realised he had called three times. I think someone must have offended him previously because I did not know why he was so angry. I was simply recording of 17 pallets on the computer. I did the same thing because I did not want to miss anything.

“I told him that as he knew, I could not pick calls.  He asked why I was sitting down while others were working. He was very angry and I told him that I was working to time because all our operations were based on timeliness. He then tried to take my phone from me but because I was struggling with him, he hit me in the chest. I started to shout and told him to leave me alone. I struggled with him and he hit me again and said he would write to the management about my insubordination. I walked away and he ran after me and hit me again.

“I called other workers to see what was happening. I was crying and asked what I did wrong. He said, ‘I am the manager here, I would make sure you are sacked.’ A colleague who intervened was shouting and telling him not to hit a woman like that. But he just told my direct boss to sack me, he asked him to call the police and the company security to throw me out but because I did nothing wrong, my direct supervisor did not do so.”

According to Omoghiboria, while Pelagio hit her, she used her right hand to block him once. She alleged that the CCTV record of the incident, which only showed the part where she blocked him with her arm was the evidence used to fire her.

She was accused of assaulting her boss.

But trouble started when Omoghiboria got home that night. She said she started feeling unwell and had to go to the hospital, where she reportedly collapsed twice before she was given injections to stabilise her.

She said, “That night I started feeling unwell. I had to go to the hospital and was told I collapsed twice. I was given injections and discharged later.

“I went to work the following day. My blood pressure was sky high and they took me to the hospital to be admitted. I was admitted for two days. When I got back I was told to make a statement of what happened.

“I did and a panel was set up to investigate the issue. Even at the panel, he was still threatening me. Eventually, they terminated my job.”

The case was reported at the Ministry of Labour of the Ogun State Government by the workers’ union in the company. The ministry insisted that justice must prevail.

Omoghiboria has accused the company of failing to sanction the Philipino for an unwarranted assault on her and instead punished her for doing nothing wrong.

But when Saturday Punch reached out to the Human Resources Manager, Mr. Abiodun Towobola, he explained that it was not true that Omoghiboria was punished unjustly.

He said, “It is a process. When the issue came up, she was the one that was investigated. It is based on her own report that we had to continue the process by looking into the actions of Mr. Pelagio.

“Because of his role in the company being a senior staff member critical to production and being a signatory to some important documents, we could not just disengage him immediately without putting some things in place first. We have concluded in the management that he (Pelagio) cannot continue with the company.

“We have given him till the end of July to disengage. We are not an organisation that does not care about our staff whether the lowest cadre or the highest. We have a code of conduct and anybody that goes against it will be taken through the normal process.

“An expatriate had assaulted a staff member before and we immediately sent him away. In this case, the man told her to stop using her phone but she did not listen. She had her own shortcoming and so does the man. Both of them are liable for punishment. The management is not partial to anybody. We have concluded that the man must go.”

Saturday Punch reached out to Pelagio but he did not pick calls to his line.
