The actress earlier today posted a video telling her fans there would be a rally tomorrow at Falomo to protest against domestic violence and once spoke about her own experience with her husband. Her husband however saw the message and it didn’t go down well with him. He called her out demanding she tells the world the truth because he didn’t beat her and ended it with ‘If only you all know the truth about her and who she really is’. Let us be very careful of what we do especially when we are Angry as we might not know the consequences of that action.......Violence like I keep saying does not and will not solve anything, let us learn to control our anger at all times..... Arguments are bound to happen between couples but under no circumstances should we let it result to violence! Nobody has a right to hit, his or her partner regardless........

Evans Goes To Court Again, Demands N300m For Alleged Illegal Detention & Media Trial

Suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (a.k.a. Evans), has again dragged the Inspector General of Police, and three others before a Federal High Court in Lagos over his alleged illegal detention.

In the new suit filed today, Evans is claiming N300 million as general and exemplary damages against the police for alleged illegal detention and unconstitutional media trial.

Joined as respondents in his new originating motion are the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.

Undergraduate Murdered And Dumped In The Bush Was Tortured By Kaduna Policemen

Some policemen attached to the Sabon Gari Police Division, Kaduna State Police Command, have been accused of torturing a 27-year-old undergraduate of the Kaduna State Polytechnic, Kaduna, Benjamin Wankaa, to death.

The victim, who was returning in his car from a party, where he had performed as the master of ceremony, was reportedly stopped by the policemen at a checkpoint at Magangi Gari, in the Sabon Gari area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that things went awry when a cousin of the victim allegedly insulted the cops.

Benjamin, aka MC Cedar, was said to have defended the cousin.

While the Benue State indigene was detained at the checkpoint, the cousin and other occupants of the car were whisked away in a patrol van.

His mutilated corpse was later found in a bush.

Although the incident happened on Friday, the family were not informed until Sunday as the police allegedly ordered the uncle of the deceased to sign a case closure form before Benjamin’s cousin and the others were released to him.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the Sabon Gari Divisional Police Officer also threatened to deal with any family member or friends of Benjamin that talked about the incident.

A relative of the victim, who claimed to have seen the corpse, said there were injuries on the body, adding that his head and hands were broken.

She said, “He was with some classmates, including a lady. The lady, who is our cousin, spoke to the policemen anyhow and they started harassing her. My brother then interfered and that was how the problem started.

“Some of the policemen took our cousin and other people in the car away because they could speak Hausa; they left Benjamin behind with other cops.

“His corpse, which I saw, was mutilated. His head, hands and two legs were broken. He was tortured to death. The police have refused to disclose what happened to us.”

The victim’s mother said the family was bombarded with calls on Sunday.

She said the initial information was that Benjamin went missing before later revelation indicated that he was tortured to death.

“I spoke with him on Friday. He complained of stomach upset and I asked him to get drugs. I called him that day to check if he had taken the drugs. He said he had recovered from the ailment and he was fine.

“On Saturday morning, I called his telephone number, but it rang out. By 10am, the line was no longer reachable until on Sunday when my family was bombarded with calls. We were initially told that he went missing. They later said he was dead,” she said.

It was learnt that the HND I student of Mineral Resources Department lived with his uncle in Kaduna.

A counsel with Joints Legal Action Aids, a non-governmental organisation, Fisayo Okeboyejo, demanded an investigation into the death of the victim.

Okeboyejo said from available evidence, Benjamin was murdered in cold blood.

He said, “Benjamin, while schooling, was into MC jobs. He did this to sustain his educational career. He was with his cousin and some friends and they were coming from a night party where he was the MC.

“On getting to a checkpoint at Magangi Gari, Sabon Gari, his vehicle was stopped by policemen. It was later reported that for reasons known only to the policemen, they called for reinforcement.

“The students in the vehicle, two of who happened to be Benjamin’s cousins, identified themselves as students of the Kaduna Polytechnic, by producing their school ID cards, including Benjamin.

“A patrol van, which had been called earlier, whisked the students away to the police station, while Benjamin was left with the team at the checkpoint.

“Later, the policemen claimed that Benjamin had escaped, only to later break the news of the young man’s death.

“The Nigeria Police Force claimed that Benjamin was found dead along the highway, with some parts of his body broken, especially his legs and hands, which indicated that there might have been torture and brutality on the innocent young man.”

He said after forcing Benjamin’s uncle to sign a case closure form at the station, the victim’s family were also forced to sign a statement that the corpse would not be examined.

Okeboyejo said there was no coroner report on the death, adding that the police did that to cover up the killing of the victim.

He called on the police to give the bereaved family justice.

The Kaduna State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mustapha Muhammed, said he was running an errand for the state Commissioner of Police and could not react.

A prominent Vietnamese blogger known as ‘Mother Mushroom’ was jailed for 10 years on Thursday, her lawyer said, during a brief trial rights groups decried as “outrageous”.

Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, whose pen name derives from her daughter’s nickname “mushroom”, was arrested in October 2016 and later charged with anti-state propaganda over critical Facebook posts about politics and the environment.

Vietnam’s one-party state keeps a tight clamp on dissent and routinely jails activists, bloggers and lawyers who speak out against the communist regime.

The 37-year-old blogger faced a maximum of 12 years in prison, and her lawyer said the heavy sentence she received at the closed-door trial was “harsh”.

“I am not happy with the result of the trial today,” Nguyen Kha Thanh told AFP, adding that Quynh would likely appeal.

AFP was barred from attending the one-day trial in south-central Khanh Hoa province Thursday, which was heavily guarded by police, according to images on social media.

Thanh said Quynh was calm throughout the trial. In a pre-sentence statement she admitted no guilt and instead used the opportunity to send a message to her two kids and mother, the lawyer added.

“She apologised to her mother and the two kids for what effect this has had on them, but she said they must be very proud of her,” Thanh told AFP.

Quynh was charged under Article 88 of Vietnam’s criminal code and held incommunicado with no access to lawyers until June 20, according to Thanh.

She has been a vocal critic of Vietnam’s human rights record, civilian deaths in police custody and the government’s handling of a toxic leak that killed tonnes of fish last year.

She was arrested in Nha Trang on October 10 as she was visiting a fellow activist in prison

In the verdict, the judge said Quynh had defamed the government, harmed national unity, eroded popular trust of the government and undermined national security.

She was also convicted for publishing inaccurate information to humiliate the police and erode public trust in them, based on her reports about police brutality.

Human Rights Watch earlier decried the trial as “outrageous” and demanded her release.

“The scandal here is not what Mother Mushroom said, but Hanoi’s stubborn refusal to repeal draconian, rights-abusing laws that punish peaceful dissent and tarnish Vietnam’s international reputation,” Phil Robertson, HRW deputy Asia director said in a statement Wednesday.

The United States, Britain and the European Union have all called for Quynh’s release.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said Thursday “all acts that violate the law will be seriously punished in accordance with Vietnamese laws” when asked about the case.

Quynh received an International Woman of Courage Award from the US State Department in March, which Vietnam said was “not appropriate and of no benefit for the development of relations between the two countries”.

In 2015, she was awarded the Civil Rights Defender of the Year by a Sweden-based international advocacy group.

Meet Ogungbeje,the lawyer defending Billionaire Kidnapper, Evans

Just when Nigerians thought no lawyer will step out to defend notorious  billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans,  Voice Olukoya Ogungbeje has proven an exception.

Ogungbeje who heads Lawflex Chambers ,  stepped out Wednesday.

He grabbed the headlines as he filed a fundamental rights suit on behalf of Evans, by dragging the Inspector General of Police, and three others before a Federal High Court in Lagos over Evans alleged illegal detention .


In his fundamental rights  the confessed kidnapper is seeking a court order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him.

He is in  the alternative, seeking an order, compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence warranting a charged.

In the suit marked, FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, Evans is contending that his continued detention by the respondents since June 10, without a charge, or release on bail is an infringement on his fundamental rights.

Evans lawyer, who identified himself on Facebook as Voice Olukoya Ogungbeje had been involved in controversial cases in recent times.

In April, he filed a suit  asking  the Federal High Court to stay proceedings on the forfeiture of $43,449,947 (about N13billion), N23,218,000 and £27,800 (about N10.6 million) found in a flat in Ikoyi, Lagos.

He also sought an order directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to furnish the court with a report of its preliminary or final investigation on the source of the money, its owner, and how the currencies got into the building.

The case did not get anywhere as the money was later permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

Ogungbeje also once filed a suit in Lagos in  2014 asking for the reinstatement of  Murtala Nyako as governor of Adamawa state. This was after Nyako was impeached by the state assembly in July of the same year and the speaker of the state assembly had taken over.

Again, the case hit the rocks.

Alleged Female Cultist Arrested In Agege For Bathing Neighbour With Faeces

A 28-year-old jobless woman, Temitope Abiodun, who allegedly bathed her neighbour with faeces, was on Wednesday in Lagos released on a bail of N100,000.

The accused, a resident of Agege, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on charges of assault, breach of peace, and resisting police arrest.

She, however, entered a ‘not-guilty’ plea.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, also asked the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.


The Magistrate, Mr. J.A Adigun, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awaze, the accused committed the offences on June 12 at their tenement building.

He said the accused assaulted her co-tenant, Mrs. Mercy Ifijah, by bathing her with faeces.

“The accused had a misunderstanding with one of her neighbours and in the process, she bathed her with faeces,” he said.

Awaze said the accused also conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by stripping herself in the public in order to escape police arrest.

“The accused resisted Sgt. Gabriel Ejiofor, a police officer, while trying to arrest her; she removed her clothes and became naked to avoid being arrested.”

The prosecutor said the accused, who was a member of a dreaded secret cult called “Awawa,” had been terrorising residents of the area.

“She always brings her gang to threaten residents and also beat up the complainant,” he said.

The offences contravened sections 42, 166, 119 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 44 prescribes three-year imprisonment for membership of an unlawful society; while section 119 provides three-year jail term for resisting arrest.

The case was adjourned till July 3 for mention.

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed the birth of his twins is surrogate after Portugal crashed out of the confederations cup last night.
Ronaldo posted a statement on Facebook saying he was leaving the Confederations Cup in Russia early "to finally be with my children for the first time."

He said

" I was in the service of the national team, as always, body and soul, even though my two sons were born.

President Buhari On Life Support- Fayose

The Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari has been on life support since June 6 at a hospital in West End, London. The governor made the claim in a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday.                         

According to Mr. Fayose, the President needs prayers to surmount his health challenges and called on him to resign from office to attend to his health. He also called on the Presidency to be honest about President Buhari's health status, saying it has been handled with a lot of opacity.                         

Gov. Ayodele Fayose He noted that Wednesday makes it 53 days since President; Muhammadu Buhari left Nigeria for treatment abroad and there has been no official information as to his whereabouts and his state of health.


Mr. Fayose said he does not wish the President dead, the reason he claimed to have maintained a "dignified silence" since the President embarked on his second medical trip abroad this year.

He described the recorded audio message released by the Presidency as a damage control strategy, one which moved him to set the records straight with his statement.

"No doubt, the audio message was only a damage control strategy aimed at further deceiving Nigerians. The audio message does not represent the truth as our President does not only have voice impairment, he has been on life support since 6 June at a West-End, London, Hospital," Mr. Fayose said.

He similarly claimed that the President's wife, Aisha, was not allowed to see her husband during her last visit to the United Kingdom, but she is unwilling to admit what happened.

"Only three Nigerians, who are of the President’s cabal, are allowed access to the President. I will keep their identities for now. Anyone with a contrary claim should produce the President to Nigerians within the next 48 hours. It is obvious that Nigeria is drifting like the last days of the Yar’Adua government," the governor said.

He stated that he warned Nigerians against electing President Buhari on the account of his age, health and mental capacity. He also claimed that when the Presidency released pictures to the press claiming that President Buhari had an interview with Kemi Fadojutimi of “All Eyes on Africa” TV Show in London, on 23 February 2015, he proved that the interview was conducted in Suite 881 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

"Hate me or like me, again, I am putting Nigerians on notice on the present state of health of our President. Let me state that I am not unaware of the various attempts on my life. I am undaunted, as I remain committed to truth and fearlessness because a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. It is time that the President takes the interests of Nigerians above his own and resign from office so that our country can move forward," Mr. Fayose stated.
