Jonathan's Government Seriously Benefiting From Boko Haram

The All Progressives Congress has accused Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government of benefiting in several ways from the insurgency ravaging the North-East Nigeria that has claimed thousands of lives.
“The only reason the insurgency has continued unabated is because the PDP and the Jonathan administration are benefiting massively from it. Also, the Boko Haram crisis and the Jonathan administration’s response to it must be seen in the context of 2015 elections. The status quofavours the PDP and Jonathan.
“This is because Boko Haram affected areas and indeed the Northern region are opposition strongholds, hence the administration is hoping that the Boko Haram crisis, the declaration of emergency rule and general atmosphere of insecurity in the North will lead to the cancellation of voting in some areas and limit voters’ turnout in general, a development which the PDP believes will minimise its electoral loss in the North and enhance the likelihood of a PDP victory.”

In a statement issued by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, APC in clear terms blamed the Boko Haram crisis on mismanagement of national resources and massive corruption that is being perpetrated by the Goodluck Jonathan Government.

Specifically, the APC accused the Federal Government of failing to nip terrorism in the bud before it blew out of proportion. It said the Government is using the fight against insurgency as excuse to victimise opposition, trample on civil liberties and abuse national institutions.

The opposition party alleged that the Federal Government was deliberately allowing the crisis to fester so that it could use insecurity as one of the cardinal points of Jonathan’s re-election campaign in 2015.
