Babington schoolgirls’ abduction: Police arrest three more suspects

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested three more suspects in connection with the recent abduction of three schoolgirls from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Oladapo Badmos, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

The statement said that the suspects were apprehended by the operatives of the Intelligence Response Team, deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, in the state following the incident.

The additional suspects arrested are aged 28, 26 and 32. They were all arrested between March 7 and
March 10 in their various hideouts. They have confessed to be members of the gang that carried out the dastardly act.

According to the statement, the suspects have been handed over to Lagos State Command for further investigation and prosecution.

About 15 gunmen had  invaded the school and seized three pupils from a classroom, where they and others were studying for exams on February 29.

Attempts by the members of the school’s security team to foil the abduction failed as the bandits escaped through a hole in the fence with the girls, who were said to be in senior class.

Six days after the crime, on March 6, first three suspects were arrested.
