Reuben Abati Tells EFCC: I Don't Have Money To Pay Back


Former Spokesman to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati has opened up to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he has no money to refund to the government.

Abati who was recently arrested by the anti-graft agency for allegedly receiving the sum of N50m from former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd) was quoted as telling interrogators that he had no immediate means of sourcing the amount for which he is being detained.

The ace journalist also told EFCC that he could not provide documentary evidence how he spent the N50million he collected, adding that he disbursed the sum as cash and material gifts to journalists during the 2015 campaign.

The source said, “We thought he would be able to pay N5 million yesterday, but it turned out that he doesn’t have any money.”
