SANUSI BEGINS REIGN AS EMIR OF KANO, GOVERNOR KWANKWASO SAYS APPOINTMENT AN ACT OF GOD

Less than 24 hours after his appointment as the 14th Emir of Kano, immediate past Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was thisafternoon turbaned and began his reign. The event took place amid tight security at the Africa House, Kano Government House, in the presence of the kingmakers and Sanusi’s major rival, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero, Lamido and other sons of late Emir Ado Bayero have since paid homage to the new monarch of the ancient city.
Presenting a letter of appointment to the new Emir, Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso described his appointment as an act of God.
“The selection procedure is not like that of an election in our today political arrangement. Where you put ballot boxes at the polling units,” the governor stated.
He debunked the rumour that the ex-CBN Governor’s name was not on the list of those forwarded to him for final approval. “The name of our new Emir was among the list. In fact he is the first on the list,” Kwankwaso revealed.
In his remarks, Emir Sanusi said that the unrest sparked by his announcement as the new was not caused by any of his relatives, referring to the sons of late Emir Ado Bayero.
