An 85-year-old farmer, Gabriel Oloro, has been kidnapped in the Ikere Ekiti area of Ekiti State. The abductors have allegedly demanded N40million ransom from his family members.
The victim was said to be driving home with his wife around 9pm last Wednesday when the gang barricaded the road and hijacked his vehicle. After dropping off the wife by the roadside, the men were reported to have driven the victim into their den and returned to give his wife the car key around 2am on Thursday.
One of the children of the victim, Adedayo, said the incident had left the family in panic, adding that their mother had become terribly sick as a result of the incident. He said the octogenarian was sick before he was captured.
Adedayo said the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded N40m as ransom, adding that the family begged for mercy and the money was later reduced to N10m.
The Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, said, “The police have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers. The victim will be rescued soon.”
