A newborn baby was found alive in a pit toilet covered with human faeces after its mother gave birth in a public motorway toilet. The baby was discovered by travellers who noticed something moving beneath them when they used the primitive lavatory near Almaty in southern Kazakhstan.
To their horror, as they peered down into the pit, they saw the minutes-old baby moving amid the excrement. The baby, whose shocking discovery was captured on video, was saved after rescuers who broke through inches-think concrete and waded through faeces and rubbish to reach the infant, Daily Mail reports.
Hospital medics say the baby is recovering from its ordeal after it was found on January 2. A hospital spokesman said: 'The baby's condition is good and stable.'
Police believe the mother gave birth while squatting over the hole in the floor and cut through her own umbilical cord to let the infant fall into the pit.
Local media reports have said that police have not managed to track the woman down.
