19 die in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash



Nineteen people yesterday died in a multiple auto  accidents on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
It involved a truck, a fuel tanker and a commercial bus.
The eighteen passengers and one driver lost their lives on Sunday afternoon around Fidiwo/Ajebo axis along Lagos-Ibadan expressway at about 1.00pm.


The accident, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE)‎, in Ogun State, Babatunde Akinbiyi, involved a tanker laden with fuel marked RAN 571 XA, ‎a 18-seater passenger bus ‎with registration number LAGOS AGL 373 XR and a cement truck marked AJG 40 XA.

The TRACE PRO explained that the fuel truck travelling towards Ibadan rammed into the cement truck while trying to overtake it at a diversion point and also had a collision with the passenger bus heading towards Lagos.

He said all the 19 occupants of the passenger bus lost their lives on the spot, saying evacuating operation was still on-going at the time of filing this report ‎with the combined effort of TRACE, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police.
