19 dead, 45 wounded in shocking stabbing attack in Japan


There has been a mass stabbing at a disabled centre in Japan. At least 19 people have been reported dead and another 45 injured in the attack.

The scene
It is believed a man carrying a knife walked into the centre for disabled people in Sagamihara, west of Tokyo around 2.30am, before launching an attack.
He later went into a police station and said: ‘I did it’

He is described as a man in his 20s and has been arrested, the media reports said

The centre provides meals and creative rehabilitation activities for people with disabilities.

In the developed world, Japan has one of the lowest rates of violent crime. Random attacks involving weapons of any kind are rare.
