"We Didn’t Know It Was CBN Governor’s Wife We Kidnapped" – Suspect

A member of the deagroup that kidnapped Margaret, the wife of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, last week has said he and his gang members were not aware of the identity of the people they abducted.

Margaret and four other persons in her company were kidnapped on Friday along the Benin-Agbor Expressway by armed gunmen. They were, however, set free less than 24 hours after.

One of the arrested suspects, Musa Muhammad, said they embarked on random kidnapping without knowing the identity of their victims.

Muhammad and five other members of the gang, who have been identified as Fulani, are at present telling the police all they know about the kidnapping of Margaret at the headquarters of the Edo State Police Command in Benin.

Muhammad was said to have been arrested a few hours after they released Margaret. He then led the police to the five other members of the gang who have been arrested so far.

Three other members of the gang are said to be on the run.
