The mother of 14-year-old Ese Oruru has finally reunited with her daughter in Abuja.
The Tuesday reunion came almost eight months after her abduction from Bayelsa to Kano State by Yunusa, aka Yellow, a regular customer at her mother’s food stall, in August last year.
In an exclusive, but brief chat with Punch Newspaper at about 9.45pm, Ese sounded happy on the telephone.
She said, “Hello,” and laughed when Punch spoke to her.
“How are you?” Punch asked. She laughed and replied ‘Fine.”
“We are glad you are safe and on your way back home.”
“Who is this,” she asked.
“How was your journey?”
“We have not started the journey, maybe tomorrow,” she said, probably referring to the onward trip to Bayelsa.
“Hope they treated you well and you are fine?”
“I am not fine,” she said curtly.
“Why?”
She replied, “When I come we should see. I don’t know you.”
“I will be looking forward to meeting you,” Punch replied.
Ese Rita Oruru, the Bayelsa teenager, who was allegedly abducted in August 2015 and taken to Kano by a certain Yunusa Yellow, was rescued on Monday night through the combined efforts of the Kano state police, Kano Emirate Council and Punch Newspapers.
The paper’s report on the issue led to a national coverage- which compelled the authorities to take action and secure her release.
On Tuesday, Ese as well as her alleged lover- Yunusa Yellow- were transported to Abuja by a Special Police team from Zone 1 headquarters, Kano.
In Abuja, Ese would on Wednesday(today), be handed over to her mother, Mrs. Oruru, who travelled by road from Bayelsa and couldn’t make it on time for a Tuesday reunion.
The case has sprung up series of controversies which culminated in two schools of thought- that she was indeed abducted and has now been brainwashed to the point where she doesn’t want to go back home… Or, she eloped, albeit unlawfully, with Yunusa Yellow to Kano.
In lieu of this, her father Charles Oruru, revealed to Vanguard newspapers, that he intends to seek spiritual assistance on behalf of Ese.
Charles, who believes that his daughter has been brainwashed, said he’d take her to popular cleric, Pastor T.B. Joshua, founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).
