How did this happen? Africa Football minnows - Uganda and Benin Republic - are now ranked above the Nigerian national team as the Super Eagles dropped nine place to rank 70th in the world in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday by the world football governing body.
Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying rivals Algeria remain the top team in Africa and 32nd in the world.
Argentina remain top of the July Rankings as FIFA stated that a total of 228 ‘A’ internationals contributed to the new order but the Super Eagles were not involved in any international matches last month.
Nigeria has been witnessing a steady decline on the monthly FIFA Rankings but Thursday’s was new all-time low for the three-time African champions who are now only a shadow of their former selves.
As reflected in the July rankings, Nigeria is now 17th in Africa with 514 points.
