Photos: I murdered my father after smoking 4 wraps of indian hemp-Son

Thirty-five-year-old Nelson, who stabbed his father, Sunday Oamen, to death, in Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, has said he did it because his father always scolded him.
Oamen, who is currently being detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that he had smoked four wraps of Indian hemp before committing the crime.

He faulted his parents for not giving him enough training, adding that he hated them for always talking down on him.
Our correspondent had reported last week Monday that Nelson, a suspected drug addict, stabbed his 75-year-old father to death on Friday, September 23.
It was reported that the deceased, a retired worker in a company in the Apapa area of the state, was battling with stroke and always stayed indoors at the time of the incident.

Nelson was reported to have sneaked into the house and stabbed his father to death with a broken bottle. He was said to have covered his corpse with a blanket and fled the house.
Residents told our correspondent that the suspect, who always fomented trouble in the community, escaped with the heart of his father.
On Wednesday, our correspondent reported that the suspect voluntarily turned himself in to the police.

During a chat with PUNCH Metro, Nelson said he surrendered himself to the police because he lost his peace after killing his father. The Edo State indigene said he had always fought with his father before things went awry on the fateful day.
He said, “I am the fourth child in a family of eight children. I have had several fights with my dad in the past. There was a time I confronted him that I had been going through a lot of challenges in life and I needed help, but he said I should sit at home and he would be feeding me. I was angry because he wanted me to be dependent on him and I needed to fend for myself.
“My parents knew that I smoke hemp and it sometimes affected my behaviour. They asked me to quit it, and I did for some time. People advised them to take me for medical care, but they said they did not have the money.
“I became addicted to hemp about six months ago. On Thursday night, a day preceding the incident, I had gone to a joint where I smoked four wraps of hemp. I bought each for N50.
“On Friday, around 11am, I was sitting outside the house when I started feeling restless and a spirit told me to go inside and kill my father. I went in through the window and when I got to where he was lying, I stabbed him in the neck and chest.”
He said after committing the act, he ran away because he was overcome with guilt.
Nelson, who dropped out of primary school, denied removing his father’s heart, adding that after killing his father, his eyes became opened.
“The spirit that pushed me to kill my father began to tell me that I will not have rest until I report myself to the police. When I could no longer bear it, I decided to report to the police.
“It is not my fault. Whenever I talk to my parents, they always scolded me. And sometimes, I felt they were not my parents. I killed my father because he always chastised me and because I lost control of my senses.“If I get out of this mess, I will surrender my life to Jesus. But if not, I resign myself to fate,” he added.
Our correspondent learnt that the police would soon charge the suspect to court for the offence.
But a police source said the suspect’s family was becoming hesitant in giving their full support to the prosecution.
He said, “Some members of the family want him to face the consequence of his action, but they are also considering the implication on their mother who had become old and might not want to suffer double tragedies.
“However, the police will prosecute him. It is a straightforward murder case.”

Boko Haram poisons water sources in Borno - Nigerian Army

Press statement from the Nigerian Army
Information reaching the Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole indicates that Boko Haram terrorists have now resorted to poisoning water sources like wells and streams in areas they were dislodged by gallant troops or areas threatened by offensive operations. The latest being the poisoning of the cattle water ponds in Kangallam village along Marte and Abadam axis in Borno State where a large number of cattle died after drinking water from the ponds.
Credible information available to the Theatre Command indicates that though no human life was lost as a result of the barbaric act of the terrorists, however, some cattle were killed after drinking water from some poisoned sources. The action of the terrorists is no doubt aimed at taking their own pound of flesh on the innocent citizens and livestock as a result of the unbearable offensive operations through the combined effort of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force to route them out completely from their enclaves and hide-outs all over the North East. In view of this development citizens are called upon to avoid as much as possible drinking water from unverified sources especially in locations that troops routed out Boko Haram terrorists. US State Of Georgia Executes First Woman In 70 Years Despite Plea From Pope Francis

The US state of Georgia has executed its first woman in 70 years, despite an appeal for clemency by Pope Francis.

Kelly Gissendaner, 47, died by lethal injection at 12:21am (local time) at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, a prison spokeswoman said.

Gissendaner was sentenced to death after being convicted of what is known in the state as malice murder for her role in plotting the killing of her husband Douglas in 1997.

Pope Francis, who concluded a six-day US trip at the weekend and is an outspoken opponent of the death penalty, had urged officials to commute her death sentence.

Gissendaner's execution marks the first death sentence carried out against a woman in Georgia since 1945. She was the 16th woman executed in the US since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

The court denied last-minute requests for a stay of execution.

The state's board of pardons and paroles met the day before the execution to decide whether its refusal earlier this year to commute Gissendaner's sentence to life in prison should stand.

Board members were not swayed by her latest appeal for clemency, which emphasised her model behaviour in prison and her remorse.

Her lawyers also noted she was not present when the crime was committed.

The man who carried out the kidnapping and murder, Gissendaner's then-boyfriend Gregory Owen, received a life sentence.

Reverend Cathy Zappa, an Episcopal priest who taught Gissendaner through a prison theology program, had said she was scared but had not wavered in her belief in God.

Prison spokeswoman Lisa Rodriguez-Presley said Gissendaner requested a final prayer before she died.

Timi Alaibe Withdraws From The APC Governorship Primary In Bayelsa

Timi Alaibe Withdraws From The APC Governorship Primary In Bayelsa
Read a statement released by him below....
It is with all nostalgia that I recall the zeal, enthusiasm and hope with which thousands of Bayelsans made a statement in the direction of change in August, 2015. I can also vividly recall a mental replay of the occasion wherein a qualitative representation of the leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC) ushered in respected leaders and members from their then party, Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) .
That singular event has been phenomenal just as its true meaning and direction have all exuded confidence, unity of purpose, cohesion, collectivism and courage. That day undoubtedly marked the beginning of a people's journey from hopelessness and quandary as enunciated by the accidental PDP-led ‎government in Bayelsa state to that of quality leadership that an APC government will represent.
As one of such leaders who took that historic decision, I thought of giving a further bite to my burning desire to extricate the state from‎ abysmal leadership failure. Therefore, my aspiration to be governor after series of consultations was to rekindle our collective hope and lift the state beyond its current state of decay under the PDP.
Regardless, I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all need a virile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our desires to fruition. Not only do we need this, APC deserves every sacrifice, including personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged destination come February, 2016.
This is more so that both as individual leaders and as a party, the need to avoid the a situation of crisis that the PDP might inadvertently reap from cannot be over emphasised.
As a result, having carefully examined the circumstances that have trailed the Governorship primaries of our great party in Bayelsa state, I have come to the conclusion that pushing my Governorship ambition beyond this point carries alongside it some collateral consequences.
Succinctly, two options are available to me. Whereas I am confident that I have the required support of my admirers and supporters‎ as well as the needed backing of Bayelsans to govern them, the hurdles set on the way of this noble project are seemingly tempestuous and capable of overheating the APC in Bayelsa.
In another vein, the virtuous path to take is that virtuous one in which personal interest are sacrificed for the common good, whether for the APC or the state in general. This is the path I chose in the light of the prevailing circumstances. I therefore withdraw from the governorship primary contest.
This decision is taken in the interest of our party especially as we face the task of the common challenge‎ of unseating the PDP in the state come December 5.
I thank you all and God bless.
Signed:

Ndutimi Alaibe
