Ghanaian Engineer allegedly disappears after attending T.B Joshua's church, SCOAN (photo)

A Ghanaian engineer, simply identified  Dotse Dzrekey, allegedly got missing after attending a church service in the Ikotun area of the state, Punch Metro reports.  The police in Lagos State are still investigating his sudden disappearance.

It was learnt that the 59-year-old Dotse, who worked in an oil company in Accra, Ghana, had come to Lagos to attend a prayer programme at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Ikotun.

On Thursday, May 5, the Ghanaian arrived at Lagos with a compatriot, Don Emmanuel and they were  reported to have lodged at a hotel in the Ikotun area.

Then the the duo had gone for a service at SCOAN and were walking out of the auditorium, when the engineer got lost in the crowd.
Emmanuel was said to have waited at the entrance of the auditorium even as there was no trace of his friend. Subsequently, Emmanuel returned to the hotel where they lodged. The matter was later reported at the Ikotun Police Division.
In an interview with PUNCH Metro, Emmanuel said he had assumed that Dotse had decided to return alone to Ghana, until he (Emmanuel) was called on the telephone by Dotse’s family members that they had yet to see him.
He said, “This is my second time in Lagos. I am a SCOAN member in Ghana. I come to Lagos for prayers. Dotse and I came to Lagos on May 5 and we checked into a hotel not on the SCOAN premises.
“We had been going for several prayer sessions. On Sunday, after the church service ended, there were a lot of people coming out. In that process, I discovered he was no longer with me. I went back into the building to check, but he was not there. He was not with a mobile phone.
“I alerted some of the church ushers, who said nobody was found. I thought that he had taken another route and gone to the guest house. I got to the hotel, but he was not there as well.
“There was little SCOAN could do since it was not their guest house we lodged in. I went to the police station on Monday and reported the matter. The police took my statement. But since May 9, neither I nor his family members in Ghana have got any update.
“He did not return to Ghana because his family members called me that he had not returned. The Ghanaian High Commission is also aware of this incident.”

The engineer’s younger brother, Jacob Dzrekey, said the family members in Ghana were distraught, urging the police to investigate the case.

He said, “He has three children. He had some challenges and he came for special prayers. But nobody has seen him ever since then.
“The family members are distressed. His company in Accra has been communicating with us to use all channels in Lagos to get him back.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the family had not reported back at the police station.
“The Ghanaian had some mental challenges and was brought to SCOAN for deliverance. He, however, escaped to an unknown destination. The complainant dropped the victim’s picture and left with a police extract. Ever since then, they have yet to report back at the station.”
A member of the SCOAN media team, Patrick Iwelunmor, said the church authorities would meet over the matter on Friday (today)
.
He added “I just heard about this incident. The church authorities have been given your contact. They will get back to you after meeting on Friday.”

I wept, fasted before God gave me Osinachi – Humble Smith

Ekene Ijemba, the artist popularly known as Humble Smith has revealed he wept and fasted before God gave him his hit song, Osinachi, which has become a sort of national anthem.

Humblesmith told TheSun in a new interview:
Before Osinachi, I had about four singles. I had a feeling that I was going to be a star because I have worked hard. Nothing was actually working for me after those singles. I even had to travel to London to shoot two music videos. So, at a stage, I was confused if the thing I have been doing was the right thing for me.
One day, I went to church; I fasted and prayed but it was as if nothing was happening. Some people advised me to go back to the east, to go back to the village that there was no room for me in Lagos; and that music wasn’t my career. So, I went to church on this fateful day, I went to pray but ended up not praying. I was just thinking.
At a point, I began to cry and then something just came to my mind, that ‘young man, you are here crying, wasting your time. When you are supposed to be out there hustling, creating good songs, you are here crying and complaining, when you have hands, legs, brain and everything. Stop complaining and appreciate God for the little He has done for you, let Him know you still appreciate Him and use what He has blessed you with to encourage people’. It was good news to me.
So, I thought about doing something different from what I have been doing. I wrote the song, Osinachi, there in the church, came back home and told my producer, who produced the song featuring Phyno. The song went viral. Thank God for that. I never knew God had bigger plans.
At the beginning of the year, Davido called me to do a remix of the song. But meanwhile, last year when I dropped the song, I personally took it to Davido. I gave him my CD and he said that he has been seeing my work and that the song was going to be a hit, and finally the song became a hit. So, he called for the remix. God bless Davido. Today, Osinachi is one of the biggest songs in Africa if not the biggest.

  • In the song, you talked about your ‘loving daughter’; do you have a child?

I don’t sing for myself, my music is for everybody. I sing songs that when you listening to them, you can also sing them to yourself as if they are your songs. I don’t have any child. I said ‘I go name my first daughter, Osinachi’. So, for those of you who have kids out there, you can name your first daughter Osinachi. But if you don’t have and you plan to have, you can say ‘I go’ which is what I said. Maybe, my first daughter would be named Osinachi by God’s grace.

  • What do you think about Davido bringing his personal issues into the song?

That’s music for you, that is the way I understand music. For example, I told you about my story, what I went through that gave me inspiration for Osinachi, and how I poured out my anger, my experience, and my feelings into the song. I told you that I fasted and prayed, went to church crying and something came to my mind, telling me that I was wasting my time, when I was even better than many people in the street. That is being creative. It is not easy to recreate what is happening around you into music. Music is not all about I can sing, music is business; you need to make it commercial, something that would make people talk about it. That’s how you make your money. So, in essence, Davido did justice to his part in the song.

Inside Michael Jackson's death room: Drugs, a bloodied shirt

New images show how Michael Jackson spent his final hours in the "squalid lifestyle of a drug addict", authors have claimed.
The pictures show vials of drugs, a bloodied shirt, and a bizarre shrine to babies on his bedroom dresser.
Authors Mark Langhorne and Matt Richard detail the King of Pop's last moments before he was pronounced dead on June 25, 2009 in their book '83 Minutes: The Doctor, The Damage, and the Shocking Death of Michael Jackson'.
In an excerpt obtained by Radar, they detail the pill bottles, oxygen tanks and medical supplies littered around the bedroom of Michael's Holmby Hills mansion in Los Angeles.

Tables were strewn with medical paraphernalia such as vials of drugs, syringes and tubes," they wrote.
"Plastic bags, scattered on tops of chairs and tabletops, contained latex gloves, creams and saline bags."

Police also found a bloodied white shirt hanging alongside other clothes in his bedroom.
The authors alleged the bedroom "smelled terribly" because Michael refused to allow cleaners access to the room.

Toke Makinwa shines on Glam Africa cover [Plus Her Interview]

Rising Above All: Toke Makinwa... Nigerian TV, Radio & YouTube star

Written by Ama Badu | For over half a decade, Toke Makinwa has built the eponymous brand we see before us today. Diverted from her reluctant career in banking she has worked tirelessly to become the media mogul we all know, allowing no person or circumstance to stop her from being the best.

Even rumours of a failed marriage (a issue which  still  has  not  been explicitly addressed) couldn’t derail her schedule – in fact, Toke took not one day off; she was in the studio the next day, and had a new vlog uploaded a few days later.

It’s her work ethic and driving ambition that puts her in league that epitomises power.

This does not come without discipline and strenuous labour. And, presented with the opportunity to sit down with this superwoman, we couldn’t resist talking about her upcoming projects and what differentiates Toke the person from Toke Makinwa the brand.

Studying English literature at university level endowed Toke with a mastery over language, which she loved for both its intricate structure and its playful nature. A simple scroll through her video series, ‘Toke Moments’ is proof of her studies, with titles such as "Much Ado About Yoruba Demons" and "The Writing on the Wall" paying homage to a vast literary cannon. Toke also weaves contemporary issues under seemingly archaic headings, attesting to the plethora of skills her education afforded her.

Of course, experience has been just as important. In 2010, taking a brave step towards cementing her own path, Toke applied for her first job as a radio broadcaster, leaving a career in banking that had allowed her to exist, while "not really living". Those from an African background will understand the difficulty of going against the grain and choosing a career path your parents see little value in. It was with the support of her siblings, who had noticed how unhappy she was, that Toke found the courage to forge her own way in life and pursue something in which she found joy.

"Radio presenters go on to make better TV presenters", she advised whilst explaining how those early experiences shaped her career, radio not being the field she intended to settle in. "I knew I had a husky voice. People often said I sounded like a man. I didn't think that was a good thing." Yet it was that very voice listeners became so fond of. "Now radio comes first.”

But there is much more needed to appease a TV audience, Toke explains, noting that "people will watch my show because they like my hair or the way I dress... People will watch movies because the actor is attractive. With radio, all you have are your words." That said, there’s much Toke has borrowed from her experience on radio, where she learned to be spontaneous, to ask the questions that most wouldn't think to ask; all skills she uses in her on-screen career.

Taking inspiration from Oprah and even modelling her career on the influential figure, Toke hopes to redefine some of the stereotypes around Nigeria. "I want to showcase ‘New Africans’ who are working hard and creating their own wealth and affluence; those rewriting the Nigerian story. Nigeria is not a relic of lost centuries.” This attitude even influences her style, both on and off screen; where she makes a conscious effort to wear Nigerian designs. It’s with her voice though that Toke aims to encourage "empowerment… to teach us to depend on ourselves,” though she admits “time is needed.”

Looking back on the time she has spent on her craft so far, MsMakinwa says "I Am Becoming!" – humbly acknowledging that despite the reputation she has built for herself and the years of experience she has accumulated, there is still more to learn and so much she hopes to become.

What should we expect from the media star? And what does she feel about cheaters, love and marriage? Here, Toke tells all...

Where does Toke Makinwa see herself in 5 years?
I am working towards being a global brand. I want my name to have gained international status in 5 years. I am also working on my own talk show, which I pray will be huge.

I want to have written a number of lifestyle books and I am working on launching my own label brands. I am laying the foundations of all of these aspirations of mine now and I can only pray towards achieving them all and more.

By Glam Africa's standards, you are an inspirational individual. What words of wisdom could you share with our readers?
The past year has not been without personal challenges for me and through it all, my faith in God has kept me. I have learnt that where my strength ends, God's love begins and He is more than I could ever imagine. My faith is my biggest testimony and I would like to share it everywhere. I have hit rock bottom in my personal life and it is there that I found the strength that only God can give: the will to wake up and not just survive, but thrive.

One of your most recent projects has taken Nigeria (and indeed the rest of the African world) by storm – your YouTube series Toke Moments. Did you expect it to make such an impact?
The series was not something I took seriously at first... I didn’t realise it would be so successful. No one seems to talk about the problems they have and I wanted to be the friend in your head, to voice what you normally wouldn't.

I wanted to connect with people on a different level.

You discuss a lot on s*x and relationships. Do you believe a couple can be in love but not feel physically attracted to each other?
I have come to understand that love is beyond what we think it is. In our generation, what we define love to be can come across as superficial and, in most cases, unrealistic. Love is friendship that grows. It takes a lot of work to love someone, even when they’re at their lowest; it’s not for the faint-hearted. Love is a conscious thought; it is constantly forgiving and looking beyond flaws. So yes, I believe that attraction is fleeting and it is possible to love someone that you don’t desire physically. But as time passes, love grows.

A lot of our parent's marriages were arranged. In the past that happened a lot but they somehow made it work. It is a selfless act only for people who know that it’s not all a walk in the park. Life happens.  You might fall for someone for their physical attributes, but then what happens if there is an accident? If they don’t look the same? If they stop being attractive? Do you then move on? Attraction is a blessing it’s an extra topping; not what defines the cake.

Do you think it is possible for married or 'taken' men to genuinely have a female ‘best friend’ and maintain a platonic relationship with her?
People say it is possible but I use myself as an example. I have never had a male friend who didn’t fancy me at some point. In as much as I would love to say guys and girls can just be friends, I don’t believe in it. It starts from someone wanting more and maybe in the process they then build a friendship that is more important to both parties; they choose to develop that.

I feel that we are wired differently and I am of the opinion that your partner should be your best friend. God made Adam for Eve, and not Eva, Evelyn and Everett...The moment your partner gets comfortable having a best friend that is not you, it is just leaving room for an unnecessary story. Don’t get me wrong, he is allowed to have female acquaintances and people he is friendly with, but I don’t believe his best friend should be another female.  If she’s your best friend, what am I?

Do you believe in the saying, ‘once a cheat always a cheat’? Or do you believe in second chances?
Matters of the heart are tough, incredibly tough. Cheating is bad; it is a cancer that eats you up; it destroys everything. You see a confident woman become a shadow of herself when she has been cheated on.  It is one of the most painful things, ever and though some people make it work, it definitely cannot be the same again. It is like a broken mirror, the cracks will always be there but in time, the scar can become beautiful and a place only of reference, not a destination.

People can come back from it. If both parties are willing and if the cheat understands what his or her actions cost their partner. And of course, with the grace of God.

Delta Lawmakers Approve Life Imprisonment For Kidnappers

The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved life imprisonment for any person convicted of kidnapping in the state. This followed the amendment of the Delta State Anti-Kidnapping Law 2016.

The state's governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, had in a letter to the House appealed for reconsideration of Section 4, Sub-Section 1 of the Delta State Anti-Kidnapping Law, 2016 as passed by the House, which made provision for death penalty.

“The Right Honourable Speaker and Honourable Members of the House are aware that death penalty is globally no longer fashionable as it breaches human right to life and torture, both of which are protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948. Besides, there is heightened campaign and overwhelming support for the abolition of death penalty globally.

“Since the world is a global village, Delta State cannot be an exception, hence the passionate call to the House to reconsider the Section under reference and change the death sentence prescribed therein to life imprisonment."

The law approved life imprisonment for any person who contravenes section (3) of the Law.

“Any person who contravenes section (3) of this law commits an offence and shall on conviction be sentenced to life imprisonment without fine”

According to the law, “No person shall kidnap or detain another person or prevent another person from applying to a court for his release or from disclosing to any other person the place where he is being or prevent any person entitled to have access to another from discovering the place where he is held hostage with or without demand for ransom:

“Any person who initiates a compromise, settlement or refuses to give testimony in court in respect of offences charged under this law shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to be sentenced to life imprisonment

“The owner of a property who knowingly lets or allows his property/ premises to another for the purpose of harbouring any person is guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to life imprisonment and forfeiture of the said property to the State.”

Photos) Model goes 'crazy' strips naked at Times Square while screaming about Donald Trump

On Thursday morning police attempted to deal with a naked man who climbed to a ledge in Times Square and started screaming out obscenities and dancing..
He has since been identified as 21-year-old fashion model and Columbia University student Krit McClean., the New York Post reports.

McClean was said to be screaming nonsensically, mostly about Donald Trump, and at one point yelled: 'Donald Trump where are you, Donald Trump where the f*** are you?!'
When cops first approached he screamed, “Get that bitch Debbie, I want to talk to Debbie!”
The crazed man later demanded a meeting withTrump.
Cops blocked off rush-hour traffic in hopes of talking McClean down, to no avail as of 9 a.m.
He was also screaming out about fashion and dropped the names of two iconic fashion photographers.
“I love fashion, it’s taught me so much!”“I love you, Bruce Weber,” the man shouted. “I love you, Mario Testino.”
The man also proclaimed he’s a virgin and loves his mom.
As police tried to talk him down, McClean blew kisses to the crowd, performed a chicken dance and crudely taunted officers — grabbing his privates and shaking his backside at New York’s Finest.
At one point he spit in the faces of stone-faced police who kept their cool trying to help the troubled man.
An NYPD spokesman said
He was extremely combative,”“He was spitting at us and swinging his arms.”
Police quickly blew up a giant airbag below in case the man decided to jump from the 16-foot-tall staircase popular with tourists. The troubled man appeared to be conscious and was moaning as paramedics loaded him into an ambulance headed for Bellevue.

Police arrest suspects involved in burning 47 BRT buses following death of hawker

arrested suspects
All hell was let loose in Maryland, Lagos, yesterday when a hawker was crushed by a truck.
His colleagues went wild, destroying about 47 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses belonging to Primero Transport Service Ltd and several others owned by LAGBUS Asset Management.
The debris of the buses filled the road from Maryland to Obanikoro.
Eyewitnesses said the eyeglasses hawker was trying to evade arrest by Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials when he ran into the truck’s path.
The accident, which happened around 1.15pm, caused a traffic gridlock, which stretched from the Maryland Independence Tunnel to Fadeyi.
An eyewitness said:

“KAI officials pursued the guy who tried to run away with his wares, but he was hit by a truck which was on high speed.
But another witness said the hawker ran into a Honda vehicle and was crushed.
He said:
“What I saw was a Honda vehicle which was on high speed. It hit the guy when he was running towards the other side of the road and he died immediately while his intestine came out. Immediately the vehicle owner realised he had killed someone, he parked and stepped out to  sympathise with the guy’s fellow hawkers but he was later asked to leave as many people reasoned it was not his fault but KAI’s who pursued him to death.”
A mob barricaded both sides of the road, hindering motorists’ movement.
The mob, The Nation learnt, chased away the first and second batches of policemen that arrived on the scene.
To escape from the mob, some drivers were said to have abandoned their buses and fled. Others manoeuvred their way out of the mayhem.
Some hawkers told The Nation:
“Those KAI officials are wicked people. Can you imagine how cruel they are? The innocent man had already obeyed them by running away to avoid being punished but they kept chasing him till he was killed by a car. Immediately they saw that the car had knocked him down, they drove off speedily. We are all human beings and we are not happy with the situation. We need to let the government know that we can’t take the injustice. Therefore, venting our anger on the buses is the best way to let them know what they have done is bad. The poor man is gone but we will make sure all the buses that would ply this road today must pay for his death.”
A driver with Primero Transport Service Ltd, Mr Adedeji Adeosun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN):
“I was in traffic for about 20 minutes at Maryland. Then I saw some people running from Maryland and I opened the door to see what was happening. I heard shouts from people that we should come down, so, I immediately removed my uniform. I saw about 100 of the hoodlums otherwise called ‘area boys’ coming with stones and so I ran away.
“All the passengers on board my bus also came down and ran for dear life. I was hit by a big stone”.
Another driver, Mr Michael Onabolu, said:
“I saw people running and shouting that I should come down from the bus. And all of a sudden, I saw some guys surrounding the buses and asking my passengers and I to come down. Before I knew it, one of them hit the bus with a big stone and I could not move because of the traffic. I was wounded on my hands and my thighs with stones’’.
He said the passenger beside him was also hit by a stone, adding that all the passengers were moved to other buses to continue their journey.
A commuter, Mr Elijah Omotayo, said the mob attacked their driver for not opening the doors.
Omotayo, a student, told NAN: “They started throwing stones and one of the stones hit my head”.
Primero Ltd Managing Director Mr Fola Tinubu, expressed displeasure over the incident, saying: “We don’t know what happened, whatever it is; it is something that has to do with the government or the police. But does that give aggrieved people the right to destroy private property”.
He added:
“People are saying that there are no jobs in Nigeria; we have created over 2,000 jobs in the last six months. Is this the reward we will get for it? We need to start asking ourselves serious questions in this country. They have destroyed over 14 of our buses now. I don’t even know how many they have destroyed now. For what, what did we do? I am angry. I don’t even know where to begin because there is no justification for destroying private property; our service is for the masses. Do you know how many people will be stranded today if we don’t go out to pick them up? How are they going to get home? We do this for the masses. Is this the reward that we will get? This is madness.”
Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) Communications Director Mr Kola Ojelabi told The Nation last night that about 47 BRT buses were destroyed.
This, he said, was more than 10 per cent of the numbers of buses on that route.
A combined team of soldiers and policemen restored law and order before traffic started moving again.
They used tyres and big stones to shield the body to ensure free flow of traffic.
