Notorious Somolu cultist, “Small Jaypron”, re-arraigned
Balogun, 35, who was alleged to be terrorising Somolu area of Lagos, is being prosecuted at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for belonging to a secret cult.
Balogun was arraigned sometime in 2016 for charges bordering on murder, possession of firearms and belonging to a cult.
He was remanded in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The DPP had advised that the murder charge should be dropped for a lesser charge of belonging to an unlawful society.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of belonging to an unlawful society brought against him.
Police Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, the prosecutor, had told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in January 2016 at Somolu, Lagos.
He said Balogun, an ex-convict, belonged to an unlawful society known as “Eiye confraternity”.
The offence contravened Section 42(1), (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused a bail of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed, while the other surety must be living in his own house.
Further hearing has been fixed for Oct. 16.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the victim, an orphan, has lived with her aunt in Akpoha town since the death of her parents four years ago.
The victim said that the suspect lured her and her younger brother to his apartment. He then asked them to help him to prepare a meal, part of which he told they would also eat.
“After preparing the Garri (eba), my younger brother said that he did not want to eat and left the room. He immediately locked the door and raped me after which he used a razor to make a mark on my buttocks,” the girl said.
The victim’s aunt, Mrs. Martha Enya, explained that Alobu first raped her niece in 2014 when the victim was just three years old without anybody knowing.
She said, “I became aware of the first assault in November 2014 when the victim complained of pains in her private part, I asked her what happened, but she could not speak out. After examining her, I took her to a hospital in Afikpo where the rape was confirmed by doctors and she was given medical treatment.
“He sexually assaulted her again in 2015, 2016 and again this year. All efforts to make my niece disclose his identity failed until I took her to a church located in Enugu in August 2017 where she summoned the courage to disclose that it was Simon Alobu that had been raping her in the last three years.
“I raised the alarm in the village. This prompted the elders, youth and villagers to confront Alobu.
“He then confessed that he had been sleeping with the girl all these years. I reported the case to the Ebonyi State Family Law Centre, which then reported the matter to the police.”
Commenting on the case at the police command headquarters in Abakaliki on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lovet Odah, said the suspect was in custody at the command, and had confessed to the crime.
The PPRO confirmed that it was true that the suspect used a razor to lacerate the victim’s buttocks. He added that the command was ready to charge the suspect to court.
The Ebonyi State First Lady assured that her office would rehabilitate the victim through her pet project, Family Succour and Upliftment Programme.”

TMZ reported Thursday that John LaBonty, who headed up Boldface that launched the line, alleges Kim, Khloe and Kourtney along with momager Kris Jenner failed to pay him an agreed five percent share of profits from their beauty products.
The reality TV family had a deal with Boldface to market the beauty products and although the company was acquired by another company in 2014, Labonty says he's still entitled to millions of dollars in profits.
In 2016, Hillair sued the reality stars for breach of contract, fraud, deceit, breach of covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and negligent misrepresentation.
The firm said the Kardashians and Jenner had reneged on an agreement to promote the line on their social media platforms to their millions of followers and sued for $180 million, ET reported at the time.
'After acting in good faith for over a year and a half to support and finance the venture with the Kardashians while the Kardashians did nothing but undermine it, Hillair was finally left with no choice but to bring this action,' the suit stated.

South African rapper Nasty C and crew tied up and robbed

The OPD, in a suit filed before the Lagos State High Court on behalf of Shakoor sought an order compelling the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, to “unconditionally” admit him to bail.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the 33-year-old was arrested on April 17, 2015, in his residence on Afolabi Alasia Street, Ijora Badia, by SARS operatives who raided the area after a fight. The police accused him of participating in the fight.
In the March 22, 2017, report, Shakoor’s mother, Jumoke Zaid, explained how one Sergeant Godwin Ogedengbe, the Investigating Police Officer, and his colleagues, prevented her from seeing her son.
She alleged that the operatives collected N2,000 from her each time he visited the SARS office in anticipation of speaking with Shakoor.
Jumoke had said,
“Shakoor was arrested inside his apartment. His brother and I went to the SARS office in Ikeja. We met one policeman, Ade, aka Bullet. He said Ogedengbe was investigating the case and that guns and cutlasses were recovered from the scene of the fight. Bullet said somebody told them to waste Shakoor.However, the uncle had denied instigating Shakoor’s arrest.
“I went there several times, but they didn’t allow me to see him. Relatives of other suspects arrested with Shakoor were allowed to see them. Each time I went there, I paid N2,000 for his feeding. At a point, they stopped collecting money from me.
“On June 26, 2015, the six other persons were arraigned in court. I asked Ogedengbe why my son was not arraigned, but he did not give me any answer. At a point, he started avoiding me. He told me to meet his uncle, Mr. Rilwan Zaid, if I wanted my son to be freed.”
After failed attempts to see her son, the woman said he had petitioned the OPD in 2016 and a lawyer was assigned to handle the case. She, however, said the lawyer was indifferent to the matter.
It was gathered that the OPD invited Jumoke after The PUNCH’s report and another lawyer, O. A. Azeez, was assigned to handle the matter.

13 Highway Kidnappers Arrested, 18 Guns Recovered
The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, said in a statement that 13 of the hoodlums were paraded at Jere along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Thursday.
The suspects included the leader, Umar Babuga, 27; Umaru Kiri, 26; Abdullahi Tambaya; Abdulkarim Musa, 27; Isah Musa, 30, and others.
Moshood said the arrests were the result of the deployment of additional two units of special police forces in the road to complement ‘Operation Absolute Sanity’ on the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
He added that the new units, which were relocated to some roads around the Jere-Abuja areas, arrested the suspects in their hideouts and camps and also rescued some of their victims.
The FPPRO added, “In the operation that is still ongoing, two different vicious and notorious kidnap-for-ransom gangs were dislodged in their hideouts and camps between Jere-Kaduna and Jere-Abuja axis.
“A total of 13 suspected kidnappers were arrested in the operation and they confessed to the offence and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime.”
Moshood stated that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had directed the Assistant IGPs and commissioners of police in the zones and commands to replicate the same anti-kidnap operation on the highways and major roads in other parts of the country.
“They are also to beef up security in their areas of responsibilities and ensure massive deployment of armed police personnel, patrol teams and undercover operatives in black spots, flashpoints and other vulnerable criminal spots to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality nationwide,” the police spokesman said.

Again gunmen abduct travellers in Ondo
Barely a week after a groom, his bride and their friends were kidnapped in Ondo state, five travellers have again been abducted in Oba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the victims were travelling from Lagos to Abuja in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) but abducted by gunmen when they got to Ondo state.
Three of the new kidnap victims were said to have been rescued by the Ondo State Police Command on Saturday,Daily Post reports.
Also, the groom who were abducted penultimate Sunday at Akunnu town in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state has reportedly regained his freedom.
Femi Joseph, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said policemen were drafted to the scene of the abduction after being informed about the activities of the kidnappers and they were able to rescue the victims.
“We were able to rescue Moses Yakubu and Mark Shaibu who were kidnapped while going for a wedding ceremony last week. We also rescued three female victims who were kidnapped last Friday on the way to Abuja.
“Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and we are closing in on the kidnappers. We are going to get them very soon,” Joseph said.
