Priest kidnapped by ISIS begs for freedom

A hostage video has just emerged ,showing a Catholic priest pleading for his life, and the lives of what may be hundreds of others.

Colleagues of Father Teresito Suganob have confirmed his identity after watching the video that recently hit the internet.
“We want to live another day, we want to live another month,” Suganob says in a message to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

In the video, Suganob pleads with Duterte to withdraw government forces from the city of Marawi, where troops have been clashing with unexpectedly formidable ISIS-linked militants since last week.

Suganob suggests he is being held hostage along with more than 200 others, including children, although that figure has yet to be confirmed.

More than 100 people reportedly have been killed, including an estimated two dozen civilians, since the fighting began last Tuesday.

(Photo) Whistleblower arraigned for giving false information on Ekweremadu’s guesthouse

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday arraigned a 50-year-old man, Ahmed Echodo, for allegedly misleading the police to conduct a raid at a building belonging to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday.

According to the one-count charge, two defendants were accused of the offense, although only Mr. Echodo was arraigned at a magistrate court in Abuja.

Security operatives had ransacked Mr. Ekweremadu’s building on Friday morning following information accusing the occupants of criminal offenses. They found nothing incriminating during the search.

Security officers at the building located in Ganges street, Maitama, Abuja, told PREMIUM TIMES that the raid was conducted by police officers, under the instruction of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris.

Although that information was denied by the police spokesperson, Moshood Jimoh, the police on Tuesday charged the two men on a one-count of misleading the Nigeria Police.

According to the charge, the men, Mr. Echodo and Maiwada Adamu, are accused of conspiring to falsely inform the office of the IGP that the building, occupied by Oliver Ogenyi, is being maintained and used for criminal activities including storage of arms and ammunition.

The second accused, Mr. Adamu, was not in court while the first defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution counsel, Ismail Tawo, informed the court that Mr. Adamu was at large.

The magistrate, Umar Kagarko, asked the police to find Mr. Adamu and present him in court at the next sitting.

The counsel to the defense, Peter Ngwoke, prayed the court to grant his client bail.

Mr. Kagarko adjourned till June 5, for ruling on the bail application.

Police confirm Tiger Woods was not drunk, release details of his bizarre behavior

The Police in Florida have confirmed that golf legend Tiger Woods was not drunk when he was arrested early on Monday.
Despite this revelation,he would still be charged with driving under influence.

News agency reports said the police actually found him asleep at the wheel on the side of a six-lane Florida road in the dark of morning, the engine running and his right blinker flashing.

“There was no alcohol in his system and he didn’t know how far away he was from home”, the Associated Press reported.
Police described Woods as “cooperative as much as possible,” saying he had trouble keeping his eyes open.

According to an incident report, police described fresh damage to the driver’s side of the car — both tires were flat, along with minor damage to the rims. There also was minor damage to the front driver’s side bumper and rear bumper, and the passenger rear tail light appeared to be out.

The affidavit said Woods failed a sobriety test on the side of the road because he couldn’t keep his balance or follow instructions. At one point, police said Woods appeared to be on the verge of falling over and one officer rushed over to catch him if he had.

Breath tests, however, showed no alcohol in his system. Police said Woods agreed to a urine test.

Wearing black athletic shorts and a white T-shirt, Woods told police he had returned from playing golf in Los Angeles.

The report said Woods changed his story on where he was coming from and where he was going. His car was parked in a direction headed the opposite way from his home on Jupiter Island.

The affidavit listed four medications, including Vicodin, that Woods reported taking.

Suicide Bomber Killed, Five IDPs Murdered In Borno

A lone suicide bomber was on Tuesday afternoon shot dead as he attempted to attack a military barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, a witness said.

The incident happened at about the time some internally displaced persons (IDPs) were busy burying five of their colleagues that were slaughtered by suspected Boko Haram insurgents around Nguro in Konduga Local Government Area.

Witnesses said the remains of the five locals, identified as IDPs, were on Monday found a day after suspected Boko Haram members attacked and beheaded them in Nguro village.

The victims were identified as residents of Balle Shuwari.

Balle Shuwari, located about 5km from Giwa barracks, was part of the communities sacked by Boko Haram.

The sack of the community led the victims to become displaced, thus living in the IDP camp in Konduga before the Sunday attack.

Street Kings Die Like Ants, Kayode Salako Pens Note Concerning Hamburger’s Death

Recall that one of Lagos street lords, Hamburger was shot dead during APC’s council primaries and the news of his death has gone viral. Shortly after his death, many confirmed he ruled the streets. Foluke Daramola’s husband, Kayode Salako however has this to say about him.

" To live as a 'street don' could come with a lot of social and economic benefits, but, always, it won't be long before one soon pays for all the benefits with his life or everything he has built through it. Street dons simply don't live long! They hardly live long! They live like kings, but die like a nobody. Sometimes, they even die the way ants die! ... I grew up in Oshodi area, and I can count more than 50 street dons who have been 'dropped' untimely like that usually in unwarranted rivalry wars in such a gory manner. It is a matter of choice anyway. That was Hamburger's choice. That was his choice..." - Olukayode Salako.

Photos: EFCC Re-Arraigns Ex-FCT Minister’s Son For N1.2bn Fraud

Shamsudeen Bala, son of a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, was today, May 30, 2017 re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

He was re-arraigned along with four companies – Bird Trust Agro Allied Limited, Intertrans Global Logistic Limited, Diakin Telecommunications Limited and Bal-Vac Mining Nigeria Limited, on an amended 15-count charge, bordering on money laundering.

The amendment, which was effected in counts 10 to 15, according to prosecution counsel, Ben Ikani, “was to accommodate new information” in the alleged charge brought against them.

In one of the amended counts, the prosecution alleged that Bala knowingly failed to declare “the sum of £472.26 standing to your credit domiciled at Standard Chartered Bank Plc, an offence contrary to section 27 (1) of the EFCC Act 2004”.

He was also alleged to have deliberately concealed the sum of $32,512.44 and €17.45 in the same bank but with different account numbers, while declaring his assets, an offence contrary to the EFCC Act, and punishable by same. He also allegedly “without going through a financial institution made cash payment of N200 million only to Faruk Saleh at Abuja as payment for purchase of House 2A, No 7 Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, which exceeded the statutory limit”, an offence contrary to the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 as amended in 2012.

He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to him.

His counsel, Chris Uche, SAN thereafter urged the court to allow him continue to enjoy the bail earlier granted to him on February 3, 2017 two days after he was first arraigned.

Uche, further requested for time to study the amended charge dated May 25, 2017, which he said he was “only being served” by the prosecution.

Ikani did not oppose his application for bail.

Justice Dimgba has adjourned to June 26, 2017 for “continuation of hearing”
