Kelechi Iheanacho breaks record in Premier League history

Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho breaks world record as he officially now has the Best Goals-Per-Minute Record in Premier League history.

Iheanacho has the best goals-to-minutes ratio of any player in Premier League history following his strike in Manchester City’s 3-0 win at Hull City on Boxing Day.

The 19-year-old striker doubled the lead for the City, tucking away a David Silva pass to give Pep Guardiola’s men a comfortable victory.

That effort means Iheanacho is now scoring a goal every 96 minutes in the Premier League – the best goal ratio for any player with 10 or more in the league’s history.

In comparison, fellow City striker Sergio Aguero has scored his 112 Premier League goals at a rate of one every 107 minutes and former Arsenal ace Thierry Henry scored his 175 Premier League goals at a rate of one per 122 minutes.

Iheanacho’s 12th goal for Man City came from just his 19th shot in 38 league appearances – and is all the more impressive considering the Nigerian only made his top-flight debut last season under Manuel Pellegrini.

A big congrats to him!

Governor Ambode Thanks Lagos Residents, Promises More Transformation In 2017

As 2016 came to an end and we begin a new year, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has thanked Lagosians for the massive support given to his administration last year.

Ambode, in his New Year message, promised to would work assiduously to ensure that the state is taken to the next pedestal in 2017, especially in physical and social infrastructural development.

He assured the residents of the state that he remained totally committed to his promise to deliver a vibrant, non-discriminatory, clean, prosperous and safer Lagos. His words:

“The state witnessed significant improvements in its performance indices due to the massive investment on its tripod of security, infrastructure and job opportunities in 2016.

“More emphasis will be placed on sustaining the growth in 2017 through people-oriented programmes and policies which cut across education, health, agriculture, housing, tourism, environment, among others.

“In 2017, we shall carry out fundamental reforms on all our modes of transportation – roads, water and the walkways.

“In this wise, an integrated transport management system is a priority.”

Ambode said his administration would embark on the urbanization of the Marina axis, waterways channelisation, establishment of more parks and gardens as well as community sports centres and stadia in different locations across the state.

“I promised Lagosians a government of inclusion; I do not intend to renege on that promise. We will continue to work 24 hours round the clock to deliver on our promise to ensure a Lagos that works for all.”

Jibrin Comes For Dogara Again, You Don’t Need To Lie, Ibori Gave You $600k From Prison For Your Campaign

Suspended member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accused the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, of collecting $600,000 from James Ibori, despite the speaker releasing a statement shortly after the release of the former Governor from a UK prison that he has no relationship whatsoever with him.

Jibrin, a former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, claimed on Saturday that Ibori donated the money to Dogara’s campaign from prison in 2015 to support his bid to become the speaker. The suspended lawmaker claimed in a statement that he chose to be silent lately to strategise on his crusade in the new year.

The statement read in part, “The propaganda and lies spread around lately by the axis of evil in the House of Representatives to water down my popularity shows how desperate Dogara has become. It is such a shame that Dogara denied that former governor James Ibori provided huge support to his emergence as speaker by mobilising members from Delta State and others from the South-South and South-East zones to support him.

“Since he has disowned Ibori, he should at least have the honour to return the $600,000 Ibori donated to his speakership campaign. I am sure he cannot deny the fact that he collected that money in cash,” the statement read.

EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu visits IDPs in Abuja... donate food items

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has told persons displaced by the insurgency in the North East not to be demoralized by their predicament but to remain strong, adding that there will soon be an end to their travail.

He gave the assurance Saturday, December 31, 2016, during a visit to two IDPs' camps in Abuja.

Magu said, “I am aware that most of you never expected that you will find yourselves in this predicament. There are things we as human beings cannot change. But whatever situation we find ourselves, we can make the most of it. That is the reason I am here today to tell you that I feel your pains and to celebrate this special season with you.”

He urged the IDPs to be disciplined and stay out of crime, assuring them that government was determined to bring an end to their suffering. He said with peace gradually returning to the North East, it would not be long before they return to the comfort of their homes.

The EFCC boss distributed various food items to thousands of IDPs at the Kuchingoro and Area 1 camps in Abuja.

President Buhari's 2017 Happy New Year Message

My dear Compatriots,
I am happy to welcome you to the beginning of a New Year in our beloved country Nigeria.

I felicitate with you today at a time when our nation is witnessing a new and impressive turnaround in our security and socio-economic situation.

I know you will join me to, once again, congratulate the heroic and gallant efforts of our military and other security agencies on their remarkable successes to rid the nation of terrorism.

Following the successful capture of Sambisa Forest, spearheaded by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, we have entered a new phase in our battle against our common enemy, Boko Haram.

When we see our beloved 21 Chibok girls reuniting with their families and community for Christmas, it gives us the hope that those who are still in captivity will one day return to the loving arms of family, friends and well-wishers.

I urge all Nigerians to be on the alert and watch out for strange figures settling in their communities, and report to the nearest security agencies, as our armed forces intensify the pursuit of fleeing terrorists from the captured Sambisa Forest.

Misguided elements who decided to take up arms against constituted authorities must be brought to face the full weight of the law.

The support of all Nigerians to security agencies to enable them successfully execute their mandate is crucial in our bid to effectively secure our country.

Seeing the joyful return of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to Damasak town in Borno State, following the reopening of Maiduguri/Gubio/Damasak road in Northern Borno on December 25, 2016, reassured us that the voluntary return of IDPs in other parts of the country is imminent.

The Federal Government will spare no effort in seeing to the resettlement and rehabilitation of the unfortunate victims of terrorism and insurgency. I urge state governments, privileged Nigerians, donor agencies and countries to redouble their contributions towards this goal.

Government is aware of some mistakes and wrongdoings in handling the affairs of IDPs. We are taking measures to correct those mistakes and punish the culprits.

In this New Year, I want to reassure all Nigerians that our defence and security forces are more than ever before ready to perform their constitutional role of protecting lives and property in the country; and we will surely overcome all other forms of security challenges.

The lingering security issues in several states will be frontally addressed. These ugly crises cannot be allowed to fester as they strain the unifying bonds of brotherhood and neighbourliness. Some sections of the press and some politicians should avoid provocative and inflammatory statements, while the government is painstakingly trying to find solutions to our challenges.

I want to remind you on the first day of this New Year of an African proverb that says “it is easy to break a broomstick but not a bunch”. Nigeria is a bunch and is more than equal to troublemakers.

I have interacted with a broad spectrum of Nigerians, the old and the young, and they have told me unequivocally that they believe in the unity and stability of Nigeria.

The year 2017 provides an opportunity for us to build on those aspects of our national life that unite us. We are courageous, hardworking, hospitable, steadfast and resilient people, even in the face of difficulties.

These are the attributes that define us and have for years confounded the pessimists who do not believe in our continued existence as a united and indivisible nation. We are a remarkable nation that has succeeded in harnessing our multiple diversities for national development. We must continue to support and tolerate one another and live together as one.

We will continue to pursue peace initiatives in the Niger Delta as I again, call on our brothers in that region who have taken to violent disruptions of economic infrastructure to come to the negotiating table.

As for our brothers and sisters of the Shia Community, we urge them, too, to embrace peace. They must accept the laws of the country they live in. They cannot be islands by themselves. At the same time, the law enforcement agencies must treat them humanely and according to the rule of law.

On our part, in the past 20 months since our inauguration on May 29, 2015, we have focused our energies to turn around the economy, create jobs, fight corruption, and transform agriculture to replace oil and gas as a major revenue earner for the nation. I am encouraged that we are getting things right.

The agricultural revolution has begun. Farmers in different parts of the country are experiencing bumper harvests; states are getting into strategic partnership towards attaining self-sufficiency in rice, and the era of over-dependence on oil for foreign exchange revenues is gradually waning. I am optimistic that the CHANGE we all yearned for in voting this administration to power in 2015 will manifest more and be sustained in different sectors, particularly agriculture, in 2017.

As you may be aware, our economic recovery and growth plan in 2017 is anchored on optimizing the use of local content and empowering local businesses.

In pursuit of this administration’s philosophy, we will continue to appeal that we buy “Made In Nigeria” goods. Like I said during the 2017 Budget presentation to the National Assembly, farmers, small and medium-sized manufacturers, agro-allied businesses, dressmakers, entertainers and technology start-ups, will remain the true drivers of our economic future. They are the engine of our economic recovery and their needs underpin our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

On job creation, this administration will sustain existing programmes aimed at lifting a vast number of our youth out of poverty, while at the same time creating the opportunities for people to fend for themselves.

Our determination to wrestle corruption to the ground remains unshaken. This fight, which will be guided by respect for the rule of law and due process, will not spare anybody or organ of government. It is a collective undertaking and resolve that must be seen to its logical conclusion in spite of certain distractions. The fate of our country lies partly in the success of this campaign. It will be unthinkable on my part to allow the boat of this crucial campaign promise capsize mid-stream.

I thank you for the public support for our administration’s efforts to transform Nigeria. I assure you again that the current pains are temporary and will ease when the economic seeds in gestation begin to bloom to fruition. I urge you to continue to support this administration in its effort to transform Nigeria for the good of all.

I wish you a Happy New Year, 2017.

MUHAMMADU BUHARI
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Wanted Boko Haram Commander Arrested in LG Chairman’s House in Borno

Troops of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ in the north east on Friday night made a heavy breakthrough when it arrested the Caretaker Chairman of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Shettima Lawan Maina for hiding a top Boko Haram Commander in his house.

He lives at that 1000 housing estate along Maiduguri-Damaturu-Kano road.

The incident according to sources living at the same estate with the Chairman did not come to them as a surprise following the capture of Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of insurgents by troops which led to the escape of many of the  terrorists to various places.

Mafa Local Government is east and about 40 kilometres drive from Maiduguri the state capital which had witnessed series of deadly attacks by insurgents, before it was liberated by the military early last year.

A resident and neighbours of the LG boss said, the military and some security operatives stormed the house after getting an intelligence report that the top Boko Haram commander had sneaked into the house for safety.

The source told Vanguard that both the top Boko Haram Commander and the Chairman have been detained in a military facility to enable thorough investigation as to how a wanted terrorist will sneak into the house of the Chairman, knowing fully well that politicians of such caliber do not usually allow access to their house.
A top security officer who is not authorized to talk to the press confirmed the incident, stating that “The arrest and capture of the Caretaker Chairman and the wanted boko haram commander took place on Friday night following a tip off”.

UPDATE: EFCC Chairman Magu Not Sacked

I said it earlier that I don't want to believe that the news of alleged sack of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the EFCC is true. It appears I was right.

EFCC has reacted to a story by Guardian that the acting chairman of anti-graft agency has been asked to hand over to Director of Operations by the Attorney General of the Federation.

Presidency has also reacted, saying the story is not true...

Billboard: Tekno Listed Among 10 Hip- Hop & R&B Acts To Watch In 2017

among Billboard Magazine’s 10 Hip-Hop & R&B Acts To Watch In 2017

The singer as of now has various hits in Nigeria, and Columbia Records observed, tossing its weight behind this lithe, versatile voiced vocalist.

Tekno’s “Pana,” which has already accumulated more than 13 million views on YouTube and inspired a minor version of a video challenge, is romantic and light on its feet with little more than a nagging guitar line and squirts of bass, everything pegged to a serpentine forward march.

There’s clearly a demand in the mainstream for feathery dance cuts like this one: close your eyes and imagine a smart radio programmer cueing this up after Drake’s “Too Good”.

Just like she did with Davido,Simi 'begs' Wizkid for his jacket

Twin Sisters who share one boyfriend set to marry same man

No, it's not due to end time. They live in a part of the world where people can do whatever they like.

Identical twins who share a bed with their boyfriend have now revealed they both plan to marry him.

Anna and Lucy DeCinque, from Perth, Australia, both plan to tie the knot with boyfriend Ben Byrne having met him on Facebook five years ago. The 30-year-old sisters say they plan to travel to Tucson, Arizona, to say their three-way vows.

Arizona's constitution bans polygamy but lists no punishment - meaning many travel for wedding services which are described as 'spiritual' rather than legal unions.

According to UK Mirror, announcing their intentions on YouTube, the pair said:

"We’ve been with him for five years so he’s twinning and winning… We do want to marry the same man and his name is Ben.And now we've been thinking, how is that going to work? Many debate is it possible? Can it really work? I don't really know.

"We've actually heard in Tucson [America] you can get married."

he twins baffled ITV's This Morning hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as they bluntly admitted they sleep with him at the same time earlier this year.

They said: "We're in the mood at the same time. He's a lucky guy, He needs double the energy, he gets double the love and double the attention. We're not hurting anyone and it makes us happy.

"We're always going to be together. Because we're with each other 24/7 of our lives it's so much easier to share a boyfriend."
