Men-O-Pause by Charly Boy

If you are above 40yrs old, then you have every business reading this. If not however, you still need to go ahead and read because your own time dey come.

I mostly talk about the experiences I have been through, to talk to me and some times to heal me or some of the people I counsel. I share things I have learnt, so others can pick any positives that may help them in their journey through life.

Na so.

The stage I am at now and what am going through, is what I have discussed with so many men including my father-in-law in the past 30yrs. I never thought or even imagined I would one day be wearing the same shoes myself.

Some men right now are experiencing symptoms that include fatigue, serious mood swings, depression and wait for it....sexual problems; like not being as desirous of your spouse sexually as you have been in the past. Like noticing things you didn't use to notice in the past in your house hold. Like being irritable and short fused or the feeling of being alone even when you're surrounded by family.

Oyinbo people get name for am, dem dey call am Men-O-Pause.

When a woman is moody, it's hormones. When a man is moody, it's work related stress, money problems, or just one of those days, right?

Maybe not!

An increasing amount of evidence points to an aging-related hormonal change in men that corresponds to the hormonal change in women known as menopause. Some call it "male menopause" which some believe is not entirely accurate but still gets the point across.

Much the same way women's estrogen levels drop after a certain age, men's testosterone levels decrease with age.

Testosterone is also known as androgen, and many doctors prefer the term "andropause" for this male condition or mid-life crisis, but all na the same pausing.

Anything wey pause, dey on hold.

So for many husbands, their sex life with their spouse is on hold. For some, this has been on hold for weeks, months and even years. Wahala dey o.

According to my research, testosterone decreases very gradually, in the area of 1 percent per year starting around age 35, don't take my word for it, go ask your doctor or go read it up. So Na him be say my own don decrease by 30%? Kai!!!! See life.

Some of the symptoms are remarkably similar to those experienced by women in menopause, including moodiness, fatigue, thinking too much, depression, decreased sex drive. Hummm, my brothers, old age no fit hide sha, no matter the charlyboy in us.

So how do you know if your symptoms are related to Mid-life crisis/Menopause or to some other condition?

All I can tell you is to take a trip to the doctor.

My guy, this life funny o. See me, see menopause. Tufiakwa. I reject it in Jesus Name!

Now if you are the wife, there are a few things you can do to try and help get your husband back to the way he used to be before this sudden turn of events.

First, understand what you're dealing with, both of you should see a doctor together.

It is not always correct for wives to allege that their husbands are not getting their sex games on due to escapades with a mistress. For some wives, they say fuck it, and find themselves a handy man.

Meanwhile, this is one of those times in a man's life when his wife "should be" very sensitive and go further to research on the topic especially in these days of Internet.

Wives must help out by making extra effort not only to be sexy but to be the gentle aggressor in this time of need.

There are treatments for these conditions so partners must be open to talk about it.

Wives, what you never want to do is sit there and do nothing cause that will surely become the death of sex in your relationship.

But if you're already getting your groove on somewhere else, never mind.

Most men may have problem with going to see a doctor and actually dealing with their problems, so the wife may have to find a way around that but, rest assured that seeking help will be more than worth it in order that both of you begin to feel jiggy again and better controlling the mood swings and other symptoms.

Na so I know reach o, Men...Ohhhh...Pause!!!

Why bank manager Olisa Nwakoby committed suicide – FCMB

First City Monument Bank Plc says its official, Olisa Nwakoby, who committed suicide on Friday in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Lekki, Lagos State, had personal challenges and became frustrated.

The bank, however, noted that neither the management nor colleagues of the deceased were aware of the challenges, adding that it was working with Nwakoby’s family and the police to unravel the nature of the challenges.

Forty-four-year-old Nwakoby, said to be the manager of the bank’s branch in Lekki, shot himself in the head over a bad debt estimated at N350m on Friday.

The deceased was said to have given out the sum as loan to a bank customer, who allegedly failed to
service the loan.

He was reportedly under pressure from the bank’s management to repay the loan and became frustrated as he could not meet the demand.

But the Acting Group Head, Communications and Brand Management of the FCMB, Lola Egboh, who spoke with Punch on the telephone on Sunday, said the suicide had nothing to do with the bank, adding that she did not have the knowledge of any loan.

Egboh, who described Nwakoby’s death as shocking, said the bank would have come to his aid if it was aware that he had emotional challenges.

She said:
“It is rather unfortunate that the incident happened. Mr. Nwakoby was a member of staff of the FCMB. We are not aware that he was facing personal challenges, which led to the incident. As a bank that caters to the well-being of its workers, we have counsellors who could have helped him. This came as a surprise to us as it was to the public. It is such a trying time for the family; we have been in touch with them. There is a lot of speculations going on at the moment, a lot of them unfounded.
“We are working closely with security operatives and his family to understand what could have led to the personal challenges. I am not aware of any loan. I can’t comment on speculations.”
Efforts to speak with the family proved abortive as of press time. But a source close to the family said,
“They were too distraught to speak to the press now.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said a pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the scene, adding that Nwakoby  corpse had been deposited at the Lagos Island Hospital’s morgue.

She said:
“At about 9.45am on Friday, one Olisa (Nwakoby) allegedly shot himself in the head with a pistol in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Northern Foresore Estate, Lekki.
“A team of policemen attached to the Ilasan division visited, examined and photographed the scene. The exhibit, a silver America pistol with five rounds of unexpended ammunition, was recovered to the station while the corpse was removed and deposited at a morgue for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.”
**********

For a person who wants to commit suicide, the fear of the unknown in death is less than the fear of living with pain for the rest of their lives. Can you imagine living in that state?

They forget that as long as you have breath, there is always hope that that pain will one day go away! Suicide is never a solution.

This man just threw his wife, who I hear is a top shot at Oando, into the deepest grief and sorrow. I pray God gives her and their only child, a daughter, the fortitude to bear this huge loss.

Halima Abubakar-I won't kill myself over marriage,I have nine years before reaching menopause

Following the controversy which trailed her online ‘revelation’ that she was looking forward to losing her ‘virginity’ and having kids, Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has lashed out at what she calls the negative stereotype of women in the make-believe industry.
In a chat with Punch(Sunday Scoop), Abubakar  was unapologetic about her hugely controversial claim of being ‘a virgin’ and took a swipe at doubting Thomases.
“Why would people become annoyed because I said I am a virgin? Just because I’m in the industry does not mean I am badly behaved. Not everyone is sexually active. You can have a boyfriend and not be sexually active. The reaction I got shows the mentality of the people. If I say I’m a virgin, I am and if I say I am not, then I am not. They tell me to go get married, should I go after  someone else’s  husband?,” she said.
 Abubakar added,

“Everybody thinks one should get married from age 18. A lot of marriages are complicated. Marriage will come when it will come, one doesnt need to force it. People are getting divorced with pregnancies because they got married under pressure. We should let people be. People are saying if you are not getting married, go and get kids because menopause is approaching. What kind of thing is that? Is it your menopause?  I still have about nine years before I hit menopause all things being equal. I am not one of those people that will kill themselves because of marriage. I can’t have kids outside marriage.”

I regret marrying many wives – Jide Kosoko

Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, has revealed he wouldn't encourage any man to marry more than one wife. Here's what he told NigerianTribune when he was asked:

  • Do you regret being a polygamist?
Let me tell you, I don’t pray that my enemy should practice polygamy. And, this should be a lesson to the young ones coming. I know some people will say their religion permits it, but the religion did not enforce it.  I have serious business to do now. I have young children to take care of.

  • It is more than 41 days since you lost your wife, Henrietta. It is on record that you have resumed work. How have you been coping with life without her?

When you say how I have been coping, honestly I don’t know how to answer that question. I don’t know if I should tell you I have been fine or otherwise. I can only say God has been my rock till this moment. The truth is that I am yet to come to terms with the reality that she is no more. I don’t want to believe that she is gone. So many things have been coming up since she passed away and I know things will continue like that for some time.

  • When she died, there were different reports about what led to her death. The most popular one was that she died of diabetes. Could you tell us what led to her death and your last moments with her?

You still won’t stop asking me questions about her. Everybody knows what led to her death. It is already in the public domain. She died of complications arising from diabetes.\

  • Why did her family insist that she should be buried in Delta State against the arrangement you had made for her to be buried in Lagos State?

That was the misconception that people had about the burial. Since the day she died, her family had wanted her to be buried in Delta. There were no issues about that at all. I was only trying to bargain for her to be buried in Lagos.

  •  What kind of relationship did you have with her parents; did you receive their blessings before you decided to marry her?

Since the beginning of our relationship, her father did not hesitate to let me know that they had customs and tradition that must be strictly adhered to.  The man told me that I am giving you my daughter but I am not releasing the rope. So when she died, I only proposed that she should be buried in Lagos but I am a man of culture and I respect tradition very well. So, there was no fuss about where she would be buried because we already knew where we were going.

  •  How are you coping with the insinuation peddled in some quarters that losing three wives was not natural?

Segun, why are you asking me this question? I hope you don’t want us to discontinue this interview? I don’t want to start discussing all that. I don’t know what you expect me to tell you. Henrietta lived with me for over 20 years. I never expected or prayed that she would die. It saddens my heart when I hear people saying all sorts of things about her death. We all come to this world at one point in time and our exit will happen one day whether we like it or not. God is the giver of life. He gives it and takes it when He likes. I wish I could stop Henrietta from dying. I believe she died at God’s appointed time for her. If it is my turn tomorrow, I will not exceed that day. It is in whose place to say that someone’s death is not natural? I leave them to their belief. I leave them to God.

UPDATE | JAMB Withdraws All 2016 Admission Lists Sent to Universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to universities and other tertiary institutions, it said in a statement on Sunday.

A statement by JAMB's head of media, Fabian Benjamin, reads:
“This is to ensure that the University Senate perform its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Hon Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.

“The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.

“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions

“The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions.”

Asiwaju Tinubu set to storm Milan with top personalities for his son Seyi's wedding

The life-path and home of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, APC national leader, would glitter like a barn full of treasure and a life well spent, if fortune can be harvested as gold and silver grapes and blessings.

The city of Milan, Italy, will once again open its bowels to the crème of Nigerian society in few days, 9th & 10th August. Milan will creak at the eaves for Nigerian politicians. Seyi Tinubu, Asiwau's son, is getting married to Layal Holm, his Lebanese lover in the idyllic city.

Expectedly, Tinubu is leaving no stone unturned to give his son a special wedding. ThisDay reports that until their union, they were like jagged pieces of two glass hearts yearning for their missing parts.

Then they found each other and fit perfectly in place. Predictably, many people are eager to be part of the memorable celebration. Not a few have been jostling to lay their hands on a copy of the invite.

Seyi, a Law graduate who acquired his degree from the University of Buckingham, UK. He acquired his Masters in Corporate & Commercial Law at the same university where he came out on merit.

Layal on the other hand, is of Lebanese and Nigerian descent. She is said to be a brilliant consultant at foremost auditing firm, Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC). The 25-year-old is a graduate of Political Science and African Studies at the SOAS (School of Oriental Studies) University of London. She also has a Masters in Entrepreneurship & Business Management from the University of Surrey.

Sounds like they are fit for each other. Nice one!

See the reactions on twitter about women and cooking as their sole responsibility.

Twitter Nigeria is buzzing right now about women not cooking for their husbands because it's not entirely their responsibility, that their husbands have to take turns with them to cook.

Some guys and even ladies didn't find it funny, some agreed and some disagreed.
