My Nigerian boyfriend planted cocaine in my bag - Russian woman facing execution alleges
Maria Dapirka, who has already written a ‘farewell letter’ to her mother, claims she was set up by her lover who posed as a top footballer.
Her lawyers have said she has accepted she may soon be executed, but still clings on to some hope she will be freed after three years in prison.
Dapirka, who lived in Thailand when she met her lover, known as Nick, was caught with almost 3kg of cocaine by Vietnamese customs on a flight from Singapore.
She said the cocaine was planted in her luggage by Nick — or ‘Chib Eze’ — who apparently has a penchant for seducing attractive young women before conning them into carrying drugs.
Dapirka’s verdict and sentence was due to be handed down by a Vietnamese judge on Thursday in a Ho Chi Minh city court, but the session was postponed ‘for further investigation’ for the fifth time.
In a letter to her mother Olga, a desperate Dapirka said she was ready for any decision by the court.
She wrote:
“Don’t worry about me. I am fine. I am ready for any end. I hope you will manage to visit me.
“I’ve not seen you for four years. I miss you so much! Please take good care of your health.”
Her lawyer Sunkar Nurmagambetov said:
“We have received Maria’s appeal. She addressed her family and said that she has not lost faith yet, but realistically, she understands there might be scenarios like a death sentence or life term.”Pro-Kremlin news site Mash in Russia published a picture purporting to be ‘Nick’, the man she accuses of framing her after they met in Thailand.
A campaign organised by Maria Dapirka’s friends calling for her release alleged that ‘a whole criminal syndicate of Nigerian men work in Asia and all around the world, like Maria’s so-called boyfriend.
“They make up all sorts of stories, win trust, some even marry their potential future drug mules. Maria is not in this alone, there is plenty of girls like her who trust these men.”
Maria was caught with two nylon bags packed with cocaine in her hand baggage, and more wedged inside a magazine, at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport in August 2014.
Popular tourist destination Vietnam has some of the most severe penalties for drug offences in the world.
People caught with even small quantities of hard drugs are liable to be executed.
More than two dozen foreigners are currently facing the death penalty or life imprisonment for drug trafficking offences.

South African student turns to 'slay queen' after her account was mistakenly credited with over $1million
A student who mistakenly received about $1 million instead of her usual $100 monthly university food grant splashed out on a massive massive 73-day spending spree with her friends.
Sibongile Mani, 27, who was claiming benefits to allow her to study, was said to have undergone a transformation overnight after the cash blunder.
The accountancy student at the Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape, South Africa, gets R1,400 ($100) each month put into her bank account in food and book allowances.
But instead the company that administers the financial aid allowances at the university mistakenly sent R14-MILLION ($1 million) in cash to the student.
Eyebrows were raised initially when her neat corn-row hairstyle was replaced with Peruvian weaves and she began wearing designer outfits and bought a brand new i-phone 7.
She began flashing the cash kitting out her closest friends with new outfits, drinking R700 -a-time bottles of whisky and jetting herself and her pals round the country to wild parties.
Suspicions grew when a till receipt from a local SPAR shop was leaked showing that she he had R13.6-million ($900,000) in her account and her wild spending became more lavish and talked about.
She was finally outed by Samkelo Mqhayi, deputy branch secretary of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), who reported her to the National Students’ Financial Aids Scheme.
He told Herald Live:
“She threw surprise birthday parties for her friends and showered them with expensive gifts and flew them to events where she bought the best seats.
“When the SPAR receipt was leaked showing a balance of R13.6-million in her account I called NSFAS and they checked their records and confirmed that the initial amount was R14-million".
By the time they found out after her two-and-a-half-month spending spree they discovered she had been blowing R11,000 a day which is a staggering amount in South Africa.
The total missing from the account is R818,00 ($64,000).
A fellow student said:
“She went from a hard up, humdrum run-of-the-mill student to one who was leading a lavish lifestyle and seemed to have no bottom to her purse and lived the high life.
“She became very glamorous in beautiful dresses with all the accessories and we thought she must have won the Lottery. She must have thought she had won it too when she got that cash!”.
In a Facebook post Miss Mani claimed she had reported the error to the authorities.
She said:
”Today my personal life has become a social media scandal. I have been named and shamed in public. Today, I am a bad person, a person who stole the money of students.
“With that being said, and being named a thief, but as we all know in every story there is truth and there are lies with the very same story”.
She said she was not denying anything but would tell her side later but she has fled the campus and gone into hiding and shut down her Facebook page.

Although the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye declared in 2016 when he took Wuraola for a wife that she was the choice of the gods, new findings have revealed this as a lie.
Ooni's first marriage to Adebukola nee Bombata was troubled before he was installed king but they had to patch things up for the coronation. She however lives in London now.
Upon Bombata's exit after coronation, the king reportedly presented three names of his then girlfriends—Adediwura Adeyemi, Sonia Obahon and another lady.
The king was said to have given Sonia the name Wuraola.
“But he (Ooni) was warned by many not to marry Sonia. She was said to have been married to a Lebanese businessman who was resident in Dubai and had kids. He was adamant and must have allegedly bribed his way with some priests to have the name Wuraola chosen. Even if you bribe human beings, can you bribe the gods? It’s a sacrilege for any woman to walk out of the palace. It’s a slap on tradition. A slap on the throne,” said a source close to the palace. So, the oracle chose the name Wuraola and dropped others.

We don't have the power to arrest people for hate speeches-Nigerian military
The Defence authorities have denied the claim that the military is monitoring hate campaigners with the aim of arresting them, saying it does not have the powers to arrest Nigerians in that capacity.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said this while featuring on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Wednesday.
He explained that the military would only monitor the social media for information that could be useful for the planning of its operations.
When asked to respond to the accusation that the military was planning to arrest hate campaigners, he said,
“There was nothing like that. We do not have power to arrest people for hate speeches. It is just false assertion, against the military, and against my humble self that I said that we will be arresting people or checkmating people.
“The military is not going to be monitoring hate speeches. Did I tell you hate speech in your recordings? We have a strategic media centre, our strategic media centre monitors the media, simple. And it is like that all over the world. And we take that because it helps us to transform the nature of the intelligence to enable us to prepare for whatever call up we get to ensure security in this country.
“Let me tell you and tell the public without fear of anybody; we are trained to do threat analysis of anything that would threaten the security of this country. So, it is part of our threat analysis. Any person can interpret it to mean that it is a follow up to the speech of the Vice-President (Yemi Osinbajo), the then Acting President and then the minister of interior; then that person can be right. Where do we take instruction from, where do we get information from? But on the whole, it is part of what is called threat analysis.”
