HOLLAND is one win away from reaching its second straight World Cup final.
To get there, the team will have to get through a tough Lionel Messi and Argentina Wednesday.
After losing to Spain in the championship game in 2010, the Netherlands is trying to finally get over the hump of never winning a world title.
One Dutch company is offering the players some outer-worldly motivation to win it all.
According to Forbes, XCOR Aerospace is offering every member of the Dutch squad a free trip to space if they win the World Cup. That’s right. Lift the 13-pound trophy, then prepare to don a space suit to see the stars up close.
Hopefully Van Gaal doesn’t make a last-minute decision to swap out Jasper Cillessen for Tim Krul on the space ride.
XCOR will be holding test flights in the fall with the goal of beginning commercial flights sometime in 2015, for which co-founder, Michiel Mol claims to have 250 tickets sold. If you or I wanted to head into space, it would cost a cool $95,000. Should the Netherlands win it all, the flights would take place in the months before Euro 2016.
The Dutch are hoping the fourth time’s the charm. After all, with XCOR’s offer, finally winning a World Cup title would truly give another meaning to “out of this world.”
