Impeachment Saga: I'm Not Going Anywhere ––Governor Nyako

In the last 48 hours, Governor Murtala Nyako has attended meetings inside Aso Rock twice, and that is his way of telling whoever cares to know that he is very much around and has not escaped as some speculated.

Governor Nyako has said he has no plans to resign from office, adding that if the need arises he may seek the assistance of President Goodluck Jonathan against the ongoing process by his state House of Assembly to go ahead with a misguided impeachment move against him and his deputy.
Responding to questions by journalists whether he had made attempt to get the President to intervene, Governor Nyako said, “Not yet. It has not reached that crisis point. We have supported him all this time; he has supported us and in situations like these, when Mr. President’s support is required, we will seek it.”

According to him, Jonathan would likely step in since the state had also been there for the President because he too would have to intervene when it matters.

Asked if he might likely resign, Nyako said he was not considering that, even as he said his chances of surviving the ongoing impeachment proceedings in the state are bright. He noted that since the issue is before the court, it was expected that the House of Assembly members would obey the rules in anything they do.

“Well, it is in the court and the court said it was not well done. We are hoping that if they want to do it, they will do it following the normal process in whatever they want to do,” Nyako stated, just as he claimed that the state was calm and peaceful.

On moves by ex-Heads of State to speak to Jonathan on his behalf, Nyako said, “That would be excellent”.

Asked to give insight into the root cause of the crisis, he said:
"Adamawa is a very interesting place. We have 87 ethnic groups and the two religions are fairly balanced, It means that being sensitive to each and everyone of us is very important.

“It is a place of intellectualism; everybody has his own point of view and you have a group of people who share a certain point of view. And until it changes, they will maintain that point of view. But we have been peaceful somehow and we will remain peaceful”, he pledged.
