Politics is all about making peace with leaders of men at all times, especially a group with large following of men who respect their words. If it is true that Governor Rochas Okorocha issued a dud cheque to the catholic church in Imo State through Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, then he would have made a political mistake.
I just hope Okorocha and his party, APC, can manage this mess immediately and not foot-drag until election is around the corner, it may be too late. Below is what the Reverend Father told Thisday:
The Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has complained bitterly that Governor Okorocha of Imo State issued N50 million ‘dud’ cheque to Owerri Catholic Archdiocese “even after voting massively for him in the 2011 governorship election.”
The priest recalled that the catholic community controls about 60 per cent of the voting population in the state which reasonably favoured Okorocha who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to clinch the governorship seat. He added:
“Could you imagine that our cathedral in Owerri is almost collapsing and what this man (Rochas) could do was to give the church a N50 million bounced cheque? As I am speaking now, Rochas is dealing with the people. In fact, that man is not a blessing to Ndi Imo and I wonder the kingdom where he came from."
