What Oshiomhole has to say about Buhari’s appointments

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has reacted to the recent appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oshiomhole believes that the nation is at a point, where the issue of geopolitical balancing should be disregarded, in favour of merit.
The governor said this on Monday, in a statement put out by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria.
“The Nigerian nation has come to a point where we have to use the best hands to confront the peculiarity of our problems. It is not all the time we descend to the level of geopolitical balancing; we need to employ unusual methods to solve an unusual problem.
The level of decay in the country at present requires very seasoned hands and incorruptible Nigerians that will help translate the APC agenda of change for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“We must not reduce governance to political patronage of bread and butter. The governor congratulates the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Comptroller General of Customs, all of who he had very close relationship with and whose credentials stand tall among their compeers.
He wishes them well in their new jobs of helping to sanitize a system that has become so rotten and corrupt as a result of manifest incompetence and mismanagement.”

President Buhari should invite looters for talks so they can return the loot- Okogie

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to invite suspected looters of the country’s treasury for talks.
He said that since the President is working to retrieve looted funds, he advised the president that it would be easier if looters were allowed to return their loot without castigating them publicly.

Okogie, said:
“I agree with the National Peace Committee that the President should tread softly and should set criteria that he is going to use. Corruption is endemic in Nigeria. That is why they are asking for caution: ‘Look at it properly,’” he said.
The cleric urged President Buhari to invite those suspected to have looted government treasury “to speak to their conscience.”
He said that it would be difficult for the government to retrieve the loot as the suspects would use their financial resources to create legal hurdles for their prosecutors.
Okogie said:
“People like that, when they go to court, they don’t look right and left before they do things. If I have a man like that and I know he has the money, I will weigh the options; ‘will it profit the nation if I take this man to court. If I take him to court, he is going to get a lawyer. The lawyer will be employed with part of the money I am looking for.
“The lawyer will now start to ask for adjournments and all what not. I may not get this money until after four years. And the judge too, in the mean time, is getting (part of the loot); you will not know. He won’t just adjourn anyhow.
“The lawyer will invite his brother (the judge) to come and get part of the cake until half of it will be gone. We have to look at the issue from that angle. And you may end up getting nothing.”
When asked if such would be possible in a sanitised judiciary, he asked, “Is it sanitised?”

He said these are the areas the President ought to have started his anti-graft war by “sanitising and purifying” the judiciary first. “At least, you will know that three-quarters of the place is tight, and then you can start (the probe),” he added.

He further said that parents were no more disciplined as like in the old days.
He said:
“These days, they don’t care anymore. That is not right; that is not how they were brought up.”
“Look at the probe that is going on now, for example; how can one person manage to get (steal) one-point-something billion; not even million but billion, and very soon you will hear of trillions? Where did he get it from? That is how it is going on, and he is from a family.
“And if his conscience worried him, he will run to his pastor to say ‘I want to pay tithe-; this is my tithe.’ The pastor collects the tithe. Seeing that it is huge money, the pastor will ask him, ‘what can I do for you?’ ”

Vandals kill 4 policemen in Lagos, escape with corpses

Tragedy struck on Monday on Ishawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, after some Ijaw youths, suspected to be pipeline vandals, opened fire on policemen in the area, killing four.
PUNCH Metro learnt that while three of the deceased were attached to the Owutu Police Division, one was from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.Residents said the Ijaw youths took away the corpses of three of their victims.
Our correspondent observed during a visit to the area that there was apprehension in the community, while there were still bloodstains at the scene of the shooting.

A resident told our correspondent petrol was generally referred to as ‘water’, or ‘pure water’.
He said,
“We started hearing gunshots in the evening of Sunday. But it was between 3am and 4am on Monday that the gunshots intensified.

“We did not know what transpired between the ‘pure water’ sellers and the police, who have a patrol team by the roadside, until we woke up to see blood and later learnt that some policemen had been killed.”
Another member of the community explained that the killing was due to a disagreement between the policemen and the suspected vandals.
He said the vandals had paid the policemen some money after they intercepted four tankers of fuel in the community, but the SARS officers later came to make a separate demand.
“After the policemen from Owutu had been settled, SARS operatives came and said they had not been given their own share.
“The vandals asked them to meet their colleagues who had already been paid. They told the SARS men that they were not making much money from the business and that their demand was excessive.
“The SARS officers became angry and seized the tankers.”
PUNCH Metro learnt from a police source that the vandals left the trucks and returned to their commander in the creek.
The source said the commander, one OC, was the one coordinating the vandals in the creek.
The source said,
“After SARS officials took over their trucks, they threatened to take them to their station if their demands were not met. The vandals went to mobilise themselves and returned with their boss, OC.
OC then ordered them to open fire on the policemen and that was how three of them died.”
The source identified the deceased cops attached to the Owutu division as Inspector Yerima and Corporal Adakuro, adding that one Sergeant Endurance was rescued from the scene and taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital, from where he was referred to the Lagos Island General Hospital.

He said the station immediately received a call from two other officers, who escaped unhurt, warning of the possibility of an attack on the station.

A source told PUNCH Metro that one of the slain cops, Adakuro, was of Ijaw descent, and knew many of the vandals.
It was learnt that the police corporal had called the bluff of the vandals, which aggravated the matter.
His handset, which had the phone numbers of the vandals, was said to have been taken away after the incident.

It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of the Owutu station had reported the case at the command headquarters. The two policemen, who escaped unhurt, were also asked to report at the command.A senior police source said,
“The DPO reported to the CP this morning (Monday). The community has always been peaceful, but the SARS men came to cause trouble. And now, some of our men are unaccounted for.”

Redeem Church suspends Pastor over Pasuma’s invitation, cancels crusade

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) through its provincial headquarters on Lagos Island has cancelled a three-day outdoor crusade of one its parishes.

The cancellation came after the criticism that followed the invitation of the Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma as a guest artist for the crusade.

Pasuma’s picture appeared on the handbill advert alongside the gospel singer Tope Alabi and a former band leader of the late Fela Anikulapo’s Egypt 80 band, Kereke Jike.

Naij.com gathered that the decision to stop the programme was because the church headquarters felt the idea to bring Pasuma and his fans to the church was not well conceived. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the organisers did not do a detailed consultation before going ahead with the programme.

He also said that as a result the programme has been cancelled and the pastor in charge of the church along with the organising committee has also been suspended as they now await sanction for dragging the name of the church into the mud.

The crusade organised by Province 20 and tagged ‘Lagos Island Family areas forum’ was expected to feature Pastor Keji Hamilton and billed for Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25.

Naij.com further learned it was a fan of the Fuji lord who worked at the press where the posters and fliers were being printed who leaked the artwork of the posters and fliers of the event.

Akpabio Hospitalised In Abuja After Own Car Disobeyed Traffic Light

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, now Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, escaped death this morning after his car got involved in an accident along the Airport Road in Abuja.

Premium Times reports that the accident occurred near the Bolingo Junction close to the Ship House, Abuja.

A witness said Mr. Akpabio was moving in a convoy of vehicles towards the City Gate when his vehicle ran into another car.

“My wife and I were coming from the NNPC Mega Station and we stopped at the traffic light by Bolingo Hotel Junction. When the green light showed and we made to move, there was this siren blaring Mercedes Benz jeep that came from the town and almost crashed onto my car. I don’t know how we dodged but another that was behind the jeep hit the car behind me and tumbled on its side.

“I and my wife rushed out of our vehicle and helped the driver bring out his boss. When we brought him out, we found that it was former governor Godswill Akpabio.

“At the time we brought him out, the siren was still blaring. We put him in the other vehicle and he was rushed to the National Hospital.”

The witness said Mr. Akpabio was badly shaken and was in a traumatic condition when he was brought out of the crashed vehicle.

He said the former governor was apparently rushing out of the city when his convoy beat the traffic and crashed.

When Premium Times arrived at the National Hospital two hours after Mr. Akpabio was admitted at the hospital, a security official said the former governor was at the National Trauma Center.

The source however noted that Mr. Akpabio was later moved to a private section of the hospital for X-ray and other investigations.

At about 10am, Premium Times met with the driver to the former governor, simply called David who confirmed the accident.

Mr. David said his boss was in stable condition but declined to say how the accident happened. He wore a black jeens trouser with a white stripped shirt.

When contacted on the telephone, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, J. Momoh, said he could not speak on Mr. Akpabio’s case because he has no authorisation from the family.

Mr. Momoh, who argued that it is against medical ethics to speak about a patient in admission, did not however deny that Mr. Akpabio was being admitted in the facility.

“I cannot speak about a patient in admission without getting approval from his family. You should therefore excuse me,” Mr. Momoh said.

When reminded that Mr. Akpabio is a public official and Nigerian Senate Majority Leader and not a quiet family man, Mr. Momoh still insisted he cannot speak on the matter.

At about 12.25p.m. Mr. Akpabio’s predecessor, Governor, Udom Emmanuel, arrived in a three-vehicle convoy, led by a Toyota Jeep, with registration number, Yab 474 BG.

Mr. Udom was driven in a BMW salon car with the number plates covered.

Just Imagine What A Woman Did To This Girl Because of S*x

A 16-year-old girl, Bimpe Badmus, has been burnt with a hot pressing iron, allegedly by her aunt who accused her of sleeping with their landlady’s son. The incident occurred on Ogunjirin Street, Ketu, on the outskirts of Lagos.

The Nation learnt that Miss Badmus’ aunt sought assistance of two friends, Khadijah and Iya Daniel, to hold her hands and legs before using the iron to burn her on several parts of her body.

The young girl was said to have confessed to sleeping with the landlady’s son...

An eyewitness said the girl was severely beaten and chased out of the house.

He said: “They all live in the same compound. It was Khadijah that told Bimpe’s aunt that she was sleeping with the landlady’s son. Khadijah brought the hot iron from her room and gave it to Miss Badmus’ aunt while she and Iya Daniel held her neck. It was when they chased her out that the neighbours rescued her.

“The annoying thing is that it is not as if these married women are clean. I don’t know why they did that to her. It was when residents couldn’t stand the horrible situation that they took them to Ketu police.”

Mr Fatai, who said he is Miss Badmus’ distant brother, said: “When I got to the police station to see Bimpe, I was sad because the sight was horrible. My sister (Bimpe) was writhing in pains and when I asked the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to release her for treatment, he refused. I asked the aunt if she was under a spell to have gone this far because it won’t stop her from having an affair. This is cruel.”

The landlady’s son’s elder sister, Tope Abimbola, said: “Even before they were taken to the police station, she was in pain. I thought she was going to die. I quickly went to a nearby pharmacy to get an ointment to relief her of the pains. It is really painful. She has been admitted at the General Hospital, Ikeja and she is responding to treatment.”

But, Bimpe denied sleeping with the landlady’s son. "He has never slept with me. I am really in pains. I can’t even go home because I don’t know what will happen. While they tortured me, they kept asking so many questions. I pray God heals me fast,” she said.

Lagos police spokesperson Patricia Amadin, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the women had been arrested and will be charged to court.

In his reaction, Khadijah’s husband, Jimoh, said his wife had been problematic, so he is not surprised.

America Has Released The Names of Big Thieves to Buhari

Contrary to counter claims in some quarters that the US government was in possession of documents indicting top aides of Goodluck Jonathan, indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari has, in fact, been handed shocking documents relating to monumental stealing of ministers and others.

It was learnt that the intervention of some individuals, including some African leaders, tended to suggest to Buhari that he needed to give his predecessor soft landing; and indeed, the President had agreed but on the condition that the aides and ministers who looted the treasury must return the funds.

It was with a view to avoiding what a very credible source described as a public embarrassment for the former leader, that Jonathan visited Buhari earlier in the month to beg for his understanding.

“The President advised Jonathan to prevail on his aides and ministers to return all the money they looted to enable him have access to funds with which to restructure and develop Nigeria for the good of everybody. But President Buhari became angry when Jonathan’s men became adamant."

“Most of Jonathan’s men would have been arrested by now, but the President was being mindful of the nation’s democracy and, therefore, decided to pursue the matter in a civil manner. In fact, it was for this reason that the National Economic Council, NEC, decided to set up a special committee to ascertain the areas concerned and deal with it,” a presidency source told Vanguard.

It was due to the documents exposing stealings that Buhari recently urge lawyers not to cover corrupt men.

My Wife Is Sleeping With My Close Friend

My childhood friend got appointed into a very juicy post and since then, my fortunes have changed. He’s thrown a lot of contracts my way and we’ve been able to complete our own house and change cars. He has also made my wife the official caterer of the establishment he works with and she too has become financially secured in her own rights. But not as secured as the way she’s spending money.

She buys any aso-ebi going, no matter how expensive, and the array of her jewels is mind-boggling.

Lately, her catering contract has been stretched to providing afternoon lunches for the directors and I’ve heard talks that my friend sleeps with my wife regularly and nobody in his office dares complain about her catering no matter how shoddy it is.

I tried to stop her working but my own contracts not only stopped, I found it difficult to collect money for the ones I’d already completed. So I lifted my ban and contracts started coming in again.

I feel humiliated that things have to be this way. The kids are now used to fancy things and I never want to go back to the days where I had to scrimp and save.

I’ve been advised to look the other way as things like that happen all the time. But I don’t love my wife any more even though I have this feeling that if I sent her packing, I, along with our three children, would be the ones to suffer. We’ve been married 19 years.

- A troubled husband, Mr Albert, sent this to Aunty Bunmi. Below is her reply to him:
Dear Albert,
It is sad that men use their wives as baits for contracts these days without batting an eyelid. It’s obvious you feel betrayed by your friend and your wife but is the affluence you now enjoy worth losing your self-respect? What about the children? Wouldn’t they realize that their mother is now the power broker in the family! Where would that leave you?
Your fear is that if you ask your wife to leave she would laugh and happily dance out of your life because of her greed and stupidity. Any married woman opening her legs for another man because of money is nothing but a cheap prostitute.
Sadly, you alone can choose between these two evils.

Sad Story- How Dog killed couple's 4 month old baby in Asaba

Maureen Akowe had every reason to be elated. At 37, she had a baby girl after three years of delayed conception. Little wonder, she christened the baby Chinonso (meaning God is near).

Last Friday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, the nursing mother, who is also a housewife but a graduate of Sociology from the Delta State University, Abraka, decided to get groceries for the family especially her baby, at a nearby supermarket along Okpanam road, Asaba. She took along her baby, her nanny and an Alsatian dog, which was the only pet the family had
On this fateful day when she got to the shopping mall, she pulled over at the car park and left all the occupants of the car, including the dog, to get items inside the mall. For proper ventilation, she wound down the windows of the car and dashed inside.

While she was shopping, sources at the car park said there was a shrill cry from the nanny, who suddenly alighted from the car and ran into the mall shouting, “Madam, baby! Madam, baby!” Panic-stricken passers-by and other shoppers asked what was amiss and she led them to the car.

By then, a motley of crowd had gathered and running towards the car park. The gory sight in the car elicited shouts from them especially the women. Four-month-old Chinonso, had its stomach ripped open with blood splattered on the car seat and the clothes used to wrap it. The dog, on the other hand, stood towering over the baby with blood stains on its mouth!

Taken aback by the crowd, the dog started barking ferociously and wanted to attack. Promptly, two security guards from the mall took the dog and chained it. It still kept barking and tried to scare away any attacker from the crowd.

“Na Madam carry dog put for car and talk say make I stay inside car with dog and baby,” the nanny, who identified herself as Ifeoma Chinedu, quickly told the angry crowd who wanted to know what went wrong inside the car.
“Madam talk say she dey carry dog go veterinary clinic. Na as I sit inside car the dog move close and want to bite Chinonso (baby). I shout when I see say the dog open him mouth. As I shout, the dog no hear me and I come run comot make I go call Madam. But she dey inside supermarket and no hear me. She no come outside here on time,” the nanny, who claimed to hail from one of the eastern states, concluded in tears.
While all these went on, the mother of the baby had arrived and was in tears. Obviously distraught, she rolled on the floor and kept shouting, “Chinonso!Chinonso! Chinonso!” She quickly took her baby and ran. But some sympathisers took hold of her and the baby to avoid running into any oncoming vehicle. They rushed the baby, who was bleeding from the stomach, to a nearby hospital along Nnebisi road.

The baby died before they could get to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the dog was in chains and kept away from the angry mob who wanted to kill it. They alleged witchcraft and that the dog was an evil agent.

When SUNDAY PUNCH visited the family house of the Akowes, sympathisers thronged the place. Patrick Akowe, father of the deceased four-month-old baby, who is a car dealer in Asaba, alleged that his wife killed the baby. According to him, Maureen had a premonition on July 13, 2015, of what the dog did to their baby.

“My wife had told me of a horrible dream she had of the dog she brought to this house,” he narrated tearfully.
“She said in the dream, the dog and the baby were seen on a big tree playing and all of a sudden, the dog kicked the baby from the tree and the baby fell and died. I screamed when she told me this dream and warned that the dog should be removed from the house. Few days later, my wife’s aunt, one Madam Beatrice Okonkwo, visited the house and while our interaction lasted, she claimed the dog was a guardian angel and on no account should the dog be sent out. After a while, I told my wife that the dog had started behaving in funny ways and should be taken away from our home but she said she would take it to the veterinary doctor for treatment.”

For a couple who had waited three years after marriage before having a baby, Akowe’s pains could not be imagined.

the distressed father added,
“I was in my office when I got a call that a dog had eaten my baby at the supermarket. Initially, I was confused and when I saw everything, I decided that I have nothing to do with Maureen, my wife, again. That was her first and only child and because of the confession made by her relations indicating a witchcraft activity, I see the death of my baby as mysterious. I do not think I can have anything to do with her again.
“My wife said it is the devil’s work and the devil has succeeded in taking her out of my house. I have warned her about the dog but she did not listen.”

However, neither the distraught mother nor any of her relatives in Asaba could be contacted as of the time of filing this report. She had packed out of her matrimonial home.,
