Tambuwal asks Court to send Police IG to Prison for Contempt

Rough times are ahead for the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba. The Speaker of the House of Reps, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has asked the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, to try The IGP and send him to jail for disobeying an order made by the court.

The IGP had last week ordered police officers to take over the National Assembly complex to “prevent thugs from taking over the complex” and apparently the thugs are Tambuwal and other members.

Tambuwal told the court that by the IGP’s refusal to recognize him as Speaker of the House when he appeared before a committee of the House on Monday, the IG constituted himself “to be the complainant, the judge and the executioner in a matter where a restraining order has already been issued by the judge.”

Justice Muhammed, ruling on the exparte application, ordered Tambuwal’s counsel to serve the motion on notice on IGP Suleiman Abba’s lawyers for immediate response...

In a suit filed by Hon Tambuwal over his position as the speaker after he defected to the APC, Justice Ahmed Muhammed who is trying the case, had ordered that all parties should maintain the status quo, implying that Mr. Tambuwal stays put on his seat as speaker till the court takes a decision on the matter.

Relying on two grounds, Tambuwal, on Friday, represented by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said the IG should be charged for contempt after he directed his men to stop the plaintiff from gaining access to the premises of the National Assembly despite an earlier order by the court that all parties must maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit seeking interpretation of his status as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Justice Muhammed has adjourned the matter to December 1, 2014, for a ruling.

See Photo: Cobbler robs, hacks trader to death in Ikorodu

A 25-year-old man, Eje Ebi, has been hacked to death by a cobbler, Adesina Osinowo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that the victim was hacked with machete in the head and hand when the suspect wanted to dispossess him of some money he was taking to the market to buy clothes.

The incident happened at the Kokoro Abu Roundabout. His brother, Azubuike Ebi, said,
“I brought him to stay with me in Ikorodu because of the killings in Jos.His wife and kid went to stay in our village in Afikpo North, Ebonyi State.
He chose to sell fairly-used clothes at a motor park in Ikorodu and was making money. On Thursday, he woke up very early to buy goods that he would sell because he had run out of stock. That was when Osinowo, who had been monitoring his movement, attacked him on the road and used machete to cut him in the head and hand. He also abandoned his corpse at the roundabout.”
It was gathered that the suspect reported himself to security men, with blood stains all over his clothes.

Angry residents reportedly swooped on him and would have lynched him, but for the intervention of community elders who handed him over to the police.

The Public Relations Officer of the Igbo Council of Chiefs, Ikorodu, Chief Ibe Onyike, said he suspected that Eje was killed for a ritual purpose.

Onyike said the Igbo community in Ikorodu wanted to start a riot on the day of the incident, but he called for calm.

He said,
“This is not the first time they will kill people in that roundabout, especially strangers.Every morning, you wake up to see freshly slaughtered goats and fowls. That spot serves fetish purpose for the indigenes of this area. After Eje was slaughtered there, more than 400 people gathered and wanted to start a riot that could have consumed Ikorodu, but I told my people to exercise patience. If things don’t change for the better, we may not continue to sit down and look.”
He claimed that the deceased’s phones and money were no longer on him by the time the family recovered the corpse.

BAYELSA: Tension As Assembly Speaker Blasts Jonathan

The political season is here and politicians, from top to bottom are trying to outshine each other. There were signs of tension and strained relationship between members of Bayelsa State House of Assembly and the speaker, Hon. Kombowei Benson over alleged move to impeach him from office following recent statements attributed to him against President Goodluck Jonathan.

While the impeachment move, according to State House of Assembly source, has received the blessing of the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson as a “collateral” sacrifice to affirm his loyalty to Jonathan, the loyalists of the speaker, including the chairman, House Committee on Information, Iniobiyo Obiene, and the media assistant to the speaker, Preye Kiyaramo, have dismissed the impeachment plot.
But the angry lawmakers were said to have held series of secret meetings in Yenagoa where they discussed and condemned the speaker’s tirade against President Jonathan in an interview he granted a newspaper.

It was learnt that they were agitated that the speaker made statements suggesting that President Jonathan was plotting to impose candidates on members of PDP in the state’s party primaries. They were said to have disassociated themselves from the offensive comments saying, “the speaker is on his own”.

It was gathered that the aggrieved lawmakers further frowned on the speaker’s verbal tirade against the senator representing Bayelsa Central senatorial district, Senator Emmanuel Paulker.

LEADERSHIP gathered that though the Bayelsa speaker had last week recanted his comment against the alleged interference of the president in the battle for the seat of the central senatorial district of the state, the lawmakers were said to have expressed their displeasure to the Speaker for making what they described as “degrading and inciting” comments against the president.

I Can't Recognize Tambuwal as the Speaker; says IG of Police

The funny thing about this saga is that the Inspector General of Police is recognizing the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly after he decamped to PDP but he can't recognize Aminu Tambuwal?

IGP Suleiman Abba was adamant on Wednesday, refusing to recognise the Speaker of the House of Reps, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, as the speaker. The IG simply addressed him as “Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal”, a title that angered members of the House Committee on Police Affairs.

The controversial IG insisted that it would be “subjudice” for him to address Tambuwal as speaker or any of the matters relating to him so long as such a matter was in court.

Chairman of the House committee, Hon. Usman Bello-Kurmo, asked him a direct question: “Is Aminu Waziri-Tambuwal the Speaker of the House of Representatives or not?”

And IGP Abba replied:
“Mr. Chairman, you know that matters before the courts are subjudice. Commenting on them is subjudice until they are disposed of.”

And the response brought the session between Abba and the committee to an abrupt end, as the two parties stormed out of the venue.

Rather than admitting that some Police Officers threw tear gas canisters at lawmakers, the IGP claimed that “a tear gas canister exploded.” Many journalists at the venue laughed.

“Unfortunately, a tear gas canister exploded at the gate; the situation is unfortunate and it is being investigated.”

The lawmakers could not believe what they heard from IGP Abba. They just had to abandon the matter.

"Sometimes I feel Jealous of Tiwa Savage, Muna -Maheeda

Maheeda opened up to Encomium on her spiritual life, gains of nudity and Afrocandy .She insists she's born again and highly spiritual.

On why she goes nude despite being born again
True, I don’t have a problem doing that but I think it is because of my job and I know most Christians won’t understand it. But I just believe that this is what I have to do, to get attention, especially when it comes to my job and I just believe His grace is enough for me. He loves me more than my ‘nakedness’. If you see God as a Father because He sees you as a daughter, I would not because of your nakedness want to ruin you or kill you. That is how I see God. He understands me. He hates me but He loves me at the same time.
 On being religious

Yeah, of course, I am religious because I still believe in God and nobody can take that away from me. Jesus is the best thing that happened to my life.
On Beef with Afrocandy
I really don’t know, maybe she feels threatened. I used to feel threatened as well, it is normal. Sometimes I feel jealous of Muna, Tiwa Savage. I feel like why are you having all those things which I don’t have. It is just normal but it is the ability to control it that really matters.
On her husband
I am still very much in my marriage and my husband does not have any problem with what I am doing. He supports me.
On how she makes money
(Laughs) I make my money from shows, invitations. Some people invite me and I get paid just to sit down and drink, take pictures for birthday parties, weddings and many more. Sometimes, I perform, sometimes I don’t. I also do modelling. In Holland, I did two modelling jobs, one cost about N2 million and the other was close to a million naira.
I am into nude modelling and sculpture modelling where one is moulded naked.

MUST READ: Piers Morgan's piece on Ferguson police officer, Darren Wilson

I thought it was strange that during his ABC interview he said he felt his life was threatened by unarmed teenager Michael Brown. Asked why, officer Wilson said because Michael was big. Thing is, he's as big as the teenager so when he said he had no other choice but kill to him when Michael supposedly came charging at him, he goofed. Read what Piers wrote about it all on MailOnline
Darren Wilson is the first 6ft 4in, 210lb five-year-old in history - by Piers Morgan
"When I grabbed him, the only way I can describe it is I felt like a five-year-old holding Hulk Hogan…that's just how big he felt and how small I felt from grasping his arm.'
This is how Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson justified shooting black teenager Michael Brown. Reading this particular piece of evidence from the vast dump of Grand Jury documents released last night, it'd be impossible not to sympathize with Wilson.
A lone 'small' policeman in a patrol car confronted by a gigantic Hulk. There's just one problem. Wilson, by his own admission in his police interview, is 6ft 4in tall, the exact same height as Michael Brown.

He also weighs 210lbs, which may be 80lbs lighter than Brown, but still makes him a pretty hefty unit.

Put it this way, I've never seen or heard of any 6ft 4in, 210lb five-year-old boys, have you?
Wilson paints a very detailed and vivid picture of the savage beating he took from Brown.
'I was hit right here in the side of the face with a fist,' he said. 'I think it was a full-on swing but not a full shot. I think my arm deflected some of it, but there was still a significant amount of contact that was made to my face.'

Then, allegedly, came a second punch.

'I see his hand coming back around…and he hit me with a full swing.'
Imagine being hit by two full swing punches at close quarters by a 6ft 4in guy weighing nearly 300lbs?
You would think the damage would be pretty severe, right?
Yet the photographs released last night of Wilson's injuries show what appears to be a very minor bruise on his cheek, a tiny shaving-style cut on his chin, and a bit of reddening around the back of his neck.

(By comparison, my three-year-old daughter – 38 inches high and 32lbs in weight - recently broke my wife's nose with a playful head-butt.)
Evidence presented to the Grand Jury says Wilson didn't feel the need to go to hospital, but agreed to after a conversation with his attorney. Hospital staff found no significant injury at all.
Yet Wilson says the reason he felt compelled to shoot Brown is because he feared 'another one of those punches in my face could knock me out or worse…I've already taken two to the face, the third one could be fatal if he hit me right.'

Fatal? Really? After two blows that didn't require medical treatment?

Dig further into the weeds of Wilson’s account and you learn that Brown was supposedly carrying a bunch of cigarillos in his right hand when he delivered the first punch, then switched them to his left hand and passed them to his friend before delivering the second punch.

Yet despite all this apparently intense struggle going on inside the car, there was not a single trace of cigarillo found anywhere in the vehicle.

Wilson then claims that after the two punches, Brown made a lunge for his gun.
'I could feel his fingers try to get inside the trigger guard with my finger and I distinctly remember envisioning a bullet going into my leg.'
Hmmmm.
You're the one with the gun, you're the one who ends up doing all the shooting, yet you 'envision' a bullet going into your own leg? Sounds a very convenient thing to 'envision' when you're trying to justify shooting an unarmed teenager, no?

Wilson says he fired the gun twice but it 'just clicked'. The third time, it fired a bullet at Brown, hitting him and shattering the car window.
'He looked up at me and had the most intense, aggressive face,' said Wilson. 'It looks like a demon, that's how angry he looked.'
Well yes, Officer Wilson, you had just shot him. Most people would be pretty p***ed off at that point.

Wilson fires a second bullet at Brown, who then runs off wounded.
Wilson gives chase and says Brown stopped and turned around. 'He made a grunting, aggravated sound and he's coming back towards me.'
Wilson then fires more bullets, hitting Brown again.

'At this point, it looked like he was almost bulking up to run through the shots, like it was making him mad that I'm shooting at him,' he said.
Crazy – eh? An unarmed teenager getting mad that an armed cop is repeatedly shooting him.
Wilson keeps shooting – he fires 12 bullets in total, hitting Brown six times.
The young man dies at the scene.
There are many aspects to Michael Brown's death, and the aftermath, that trouble me:
* The disgraceful fact that he was left lying dead on the street for four hours.
* The ludicrously soft-ball Grand Jury prosecution of Officer Wilson, who wasn't even cross-examined about the many inconsistencies in his story.
* The ridiculous decision to delay announcing the Grand Jury decision for eight hours yesterday, until it was late, dark and cable news had whipped everyone up into a frenzy of anticipation about potential trouble.
* The bizarre press conference Monday night by prosecuting attorney Bob McCulloch – a man who seemed more interested in prosecuting social media than a policeman shooting dead an unarmed teenager. (In fact, not once during his entire lengthy statement did he even mention that Brown had been unarmed.)
* The disgusting looting and violence that erupted once the decision was finally announced, shaming the memory of Michael Brown.

But my real contempt is reserved for the legal system in America that allowed this to happen.
Darren Wilson's explanation for why he killed Michael Brown was eerily reminiscent of George Zimmerman's account of why he shot and killed another unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin.

Like Wilson, Zimmerman claimed he was being savagely beaten, and that his assailant was trying to grab his gun.

And in both cases, under Florida and Missouri state law - with which they were very familiar - that assertion was enough to justify them shooting dead a young black teen.
I don't believe Darren Wilson's version of events, just as I didn't believe George Zimmerman's.

I think they're a pair of trigger-happy wannabee John Waynes who felt empowered by their guns to mete out deadly justice to a couple of black teenagers who should never have been killed.
They did so knowing the law would shield them, not their victims.

It's not so much 'the system' that failed Michael Brown, or Trayvon Martin.
As civil rights campaigner W.E.B. Du Bois once said: 'A system cannot fail those it was never built to protect.'

See Photos: EFCC arraigns 77yr old woman, 2 others for N65m land scam

Find the EFCC statement below
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday November 26, arraigned a 77- year- old woman, Alhaja Mulikat Shonekan and two others: Martins Ogiogwa, 40 and Mujekanm Petroleum Nigeria Company Limited, before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on a 5-count - charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain money under false pretence and issuance of dud cheque.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

Counsel to 1st and 3rd accused persons, Bamidele Ogundele, tabled an application for bail, asking the court to grant them bail on the grounds of old age and heath condition; emphasizing that the septuagenarian would not jump bail.

Also, second defendant, Austine Akpomreta, presented his bail application, and prayed the court to grant his request.

While opposing the bail applications, the prosecuting counsel, Anslem Ozioko asked for a trial date.
Justice Ipaye however granted bail to 1st and 2nd defendants in the sum of N5m (five million naira) and N10m (ten million naira) respectively, with two sureties each in like sum. According to the judge, one of the sureties for both must be a blood relation of the accused persons who must show evidence of 3 year tax payment.
.
The matter was adjourned to 3rd and 4th February, 2015 for trial.
One of the count reads:
"Alhaja Mulika Shonekan, Martins Ogiogwa and Mujekanm Petroleum Nigeria Company Limited sometime in September, 2008 at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N65,000,000.00 (Sixty Five Million Naira only) from Kuta Stones Limited by falsely representing to Mr. Danladi Verheijen, the Director of Kuta Stones Limited, that the said sum of money represented the cost of 90 acres of land situated, being and located at Kemta Ososun village, Odeda Local Government Area of Abeokuta in Ogun State of Nigeria which pretence you knew to be false".
