IGP in a shouting match with Reps over attack on Tambuwal

The heat is getting hotter. Angry members of the House of Representatives committee on police affairs were on Wednesday afternoon engaged in a heated argument with the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, over last Thursday's security siege on the Speaker and the National Assembly.

The committee had summoned Abba to explain the circumstances that led some of his officers to go all out against Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, preventing him from gaining access into the parliament building and in the process harassed the Speaker as well as other lawmakers.
The lawmakers were angry when Abba refused to recognise Tambuwal as Speaker and demanded him to revert his position. The same Inspector General of Police, Abba, who is recognizing the speaker of Ondo State house of Assembly and keeping his security, after he decamped from Labour Party to PDP, is refusing to recognize Tambuwal.
The session got heated as the lawmakers took turn to rebuff the IG of Police.

At the heated session, IGP Abba claimed that some thugs tried to gain illegal access into the premises of the National Assembly. He said his men was trying to prevent the "invincible" hoodlums from gaining access to the premises.

The lawmakers lambasted the IGP for trying to do their job for them as they are the only ones who can by any means remove Speaker Tambuwal from office as the Number 4 citizen in Nigeria.

The IG later apologize for any arm caused to innocent Nigerians by policemen at the scene.
