A doctor and a nurse at the Survival Hospital, Igbogene, Yenegoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa have been arrested by the police.
The duo were apprehended by the police over their involvement in the plot to sell a new-born baby in the hospital.
The said baby was birthed by Nnena Florence, who had before delivery, allegedly agreed to the sale of her baby for N200,000.
Florence upon delivery, reportedly changed her decision to sell the baby and refused to follow through with the deal after which she then reported he matter to the police for fear of what her co-conspirators may do to her, as a result of her refusal.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, validated the story.
Butswat said one Nnena Florence, a resident of Igbogene community, on the outskirts of Yenagoa metropolis, reported the doctor and the nurse to the police in Igbogene division.
Butswat revealed in a statement on Friday, February 5 “On the February 4, 2016, at about 1000 hours, one Nnena Florence, female, of Igbogene community, reported to the police that she was delivered of a baby on February 3 at Survival Hospital in Igbogene.
“She said that prior to the delivery, she had arranged with the doctor and the nurse of the hospital to sell the baby to one woman now at large, for the sum of N200,000 only.
“But upon being delivered of the baby, she changed her mind and refused to sell the baby as agreed.”
The police revealed that the doctor and the nurse had been brought in for interrogation at the Igbogene Police Station and that investigations to determine the motive behind the criminal conspiracy was ongoing.
