Dele Momodu Pens Tribute to Late Mum; Shares Gripping Deathbed Photos

Yesterday marked the 8th anniversary of the death of Dele Momodu’s mother. She died at age 84.

The Ovation magazine publisher took to his page last night to share her deathbed photos and also write her a tribute.

“About this time on May 18, 2007, I landed in Lagos from London, on British Airways, and got my worst call ever: MAMA IS IN COMA,” Momodu wrote, adding, “I froze and prayed my Mum would survive.”

The publisher has often recounted how his late mother raised them after the death of their father when he was only 13. The late Madam Momodu, through petty trading, saw her children through school, and when Momodu failed to make WAEC the third time, she still encouraged him.

“She didn’t give up on me,” Momodu later said, adding that he would go on to gain admission into the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife.

Now, he remembers his mother, and penned this touching tribute to her:

“Maami had been sick off and on but I never knew she would go so soon at age 84 as I wished she would stay much longer… I soon received the final bad news from my older brother and guardian Angel Prof Oladele Ajayi: Dele Dele Dele our mum has gone home to rest…

As the last born of my mum, I was naturally her pet and the news of Maami slipping into coma left me totally devastated!”

I will forever treasure that last moment we shared together before Maami left this world in 2007… As I wept knowing she may soon depart, she said those prayers… Jeesu o wa pelu re… Jesus will be with you… Rest on in your Lord Maami..”
