A man in his early thirties identified as Michael Alozie, an indigene of Abia State is chilling his heels at the Forward Operation Base (FOB) of Nigeria’s Army Camp at Ngwa High School, Aba, Abia State for allegedly kidnapping his lover.
Alozie was said to have been arrested by the army intelligence team who stormed the village from Aba after a tip off that he (Alozie) was resident in the area.
According to reports, the suspect had in April in collaboration with his friend, now at large, faked kidnapping of his girlfriend who is the only daughter and child of her parents in order to force the parents to pay some ransom for her release.
To further hatch his plans of penetrating into the home of the girl’s family whose father is said to be a well-known businessman in the commercial city after the purported kidnapping plans failed, he however went ahead to impregnate the girl who is yet to do her SS2 at the resumption of 2016/17 academic session.
It was learnt that the suspect in a text message sent to his ‘would be in-law’s’ mobile phone in April threatened that he was going kill the only child of the family if the man failed to deposit N1.5m ransom that they were demanding for the release of his child.
Army source told The Nation that the girl’s father who didn’t know that his daughter was aware of the said kidnap and was pregnant for Alozie after negotiating with them, agreed to pay about N1m ransom.
According to the source, the suspect on realizing that their plans to collect the ransom had failed and that he was being trialed by security agencies hurriedly dropped the girl at Osisioma junction, some distance to their home and thereafter, relocated to Mbaise from his sister’s house at Umuojima where he was said to have met the girl.
Another source at the army camp told our reporter that the girl who refused to tell her parents that she was part of the plan to kidnap her, without the knowledge of the parents left their residence to meet at Mbaise where he was settled before his eventual arrest last week.
The source said that the soldiers after being informed about the sudden disappearance of their daughter who is schooling in one of the popular private schools in Aba swooped into action and was shocked to discover that the boy was the same boy that had threatened to kill the girl if the father failed to pay the said ransom in April.
The girl according to a medical report was said to be five months pregnant for her lover after she had laboratory test and scan on her repatriation to Aba by the soldiers.
Sources close to the family told our reporter that the parents have been thrown into a deep shock over the incident and the effect the pregnancy was going to have on the girl’s education.
The suspect, who was said to have admitted to impregnating the girl, said it was his friend, now at large who composed the text message.
He would be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible arraignment in court, The Nation gathered.
